Well.. reading the co-creators comments, it seems like Robin and Barney are definitely getting married, and its no ruse or double wedding.. which sucks. I hate them together.. he says they've known for 3 years now that those two would get married.. frick that.

Barney & Robin is such a relationship of convenience and forcing them together makes no sense. I don't buy that Barney was ready to be a father and marry Robin, then suddenly he's willing to help Ted win her back with no reservations, and then he ultimately marrys her. That's too many sudden changes.
The reason I got into this show is because it was semi-accurate about life in your late 20's and the changes you go through. They've drifted away from that and have become way too involved in trying buy time before revealing who the Mom is. Looking back, maybe they should not have said that Robin isn't the mom just too keep the suspense going until the end.

You forgot the whole, falling in love in 5 minutes with the stripper and becoming even more of a wuss, and propsing to her in the middle there somewhere before going back to Robin and marrying her.

Yeah, forgot to mention that. Makes it even more of a stretch.
Barney was best as he was the first few seasons. The player who could get any girl and had no desire to be in a relationship. I respect the fact that they wanted to make him grow but they have basically gone into overdrive with his character.

He has surpassed Ted in being a bitch this season.
At least Ted has sort of come to terms with his inner homo and being single.

I've seen every episode of this show. After following this season, and seeing the finale last night, I can't help but think that this show has fallen off hard.
This show is full of circular development and plot lines that make the progression of this show almost unbearable. They've slowed character development to a crawl, I'm guessing because they don't know how many seasons that they have left. I can respect the process of writing and producing a great sitcom like HIMYM, but come on. Every character that is introduced is pretty much useless (the girl that Ted dated that didn't want the building torn down, the dude from Harold and Kumar, the stripper that Barney marries). All of them served their purpose to get the viewers to step outside of the original group of 5 friends, but ultimately, the main plots still rotate inside that immediate circle of 5 friends.
This show goes NOWHERE now. Nowhere at all. They played the whole "and that's where I met your mother", "your mother was in that same room/building/street", "which just so happened to be where your mother..." you get the point. They played that card so many times that it got frustrating. So they just started introducing characters and developments that are easily expendable.
It was obvious, when you go back and watch the older seasons, when the show was renewed for more seasons. They slow development all the way down, they add new characters that really bring nothing to the mix, and they add little subplots. It all feels like filler that takes up the entire season before the group of 5 friends are advanced at the very end of the season.
It's getting frustrating to follow this show now. I still watch because I feel like I've already invested a lot of interest and viewing into this show. I'm not going to skip out on the last season or anything, but I feel like the writers are selling themselves short and continually playing the viewer for a fool.
I think that the end to this past season was a cop out, and I hope that they get some sort of timeline for their seasons that they have remaining so they can develop the plot and characters accordingly.

To everyone bitching......understand that you probably won't find out the mother until the very end. Read the links in the tread from the writers/creater and enjoy the ride.....or find another show and just watch the finale!!!!!!........speaking of which they are creating a new show that will be on fox and "Quinn" is one onthe main characters!!

So Robin's whole thing with Ted was not wanting to get married and have kids...then she almost marries Kevin and gets upset when she can't have kids. Now she possibly marries Barney? Kind of a slap in the face to Ted. Also, like someone said about Barney, going from absolutely not wanting to get married to getting really close multiple times. I don't think anything is out of the realm of possiblity at this point.

This is one of my biggest problems with it.
Since Barney and Robin broke up, Barney has--Met his father, showed tendencies to want to be a father, been in multiple commited relationships and liked it. Basically hes grown up a ton and became a better person
Since Barney and Robin broke up, Robin has-- done absolutly nothing except break Barneys heart (the Kumar thing). She has shown no growth as a person and has only furthered her views on kids and marriage which oppose Barneys views
Seriously Robin has basically been a secondary character for 2-3 seasons and has not changed one bit, while Barney is a completely different person now. It just doesnt make sense to get them together
My other problem with this is that its already happened. We saw them together ad it was a disaster. If the writers wanted them together that bad, them get them the frick together 3 seasons ago instead of waiting til now. All Barneys change is pointless because he ends up with someone who he was with before the change. Teds little fallback with Robin is also irrelevant. Basically YOU JUST MADE THE PAST TWO OR THREE SEASONS COMPLETELY POINTLESS YOU DICKS, WHY DO YOU LIKE WASTING MY TIME??

I wonder if some eagle eye posters here can spot any chicks that keep popping up in the background on reruns.
I do think they will have flashbacks with his wife in the background once we finally meet her, but they can do what they did in the episode about the bartender in the toupee that likes to fight. They just put him in to old scenes with a computer. If you go back and watch the actual scenes as they happen he isn't in the background.
Side note, if Ted doesn't or does marry Barney sisters like some people have pointed out, has Barney seen or met his sister or just been told about her by his father. It would be funny if it was someone he banged previously. That might be crossing some lines though but would be hilarious.

It might be one of those things where Barney is joking about backing out of the wedding and he and Ted are talking in the back of the church and they see this sexy girl and Barney calls dibs just to find out it's his sister. Then he gets all freaked out and Ted walks up and starts a conversation with her
