That has got to be the most egregious, ridiculous error in the history of the Academy Awards.

fricking Adrien Brody?

DDL and Jack Nicholson split the vote that year, thus allowing for an Adrien Brody upset.

I'm sorry, but shouldn't DDL have been Best Supporting Actor? Think Leo was the main character of that movie. I know what happened, but he should have been nominated in another category.

Don't give me that crap. "A Beautiful Mind" won best picture, best director, and best supporting actress, yet Russell Crowe, who was the entire focus of that movie, lost to Denzell fricking Washington for best actor.

As a matter of fact, that may be the most egregious error the Academy has ever made.

The shitty Academy was paying back an actor they screwed over the year before so Denzel won for Training Day. Crowe got screwed.

Coming into the Oscars that night, everyone thought the award was either going to Jack Nicholson or Daniel Day-Lewis. Nicholson won the Golden Globe while DDL won the SAG. Adrien Brody hadn't won any of the precursors. He was a long shot if there ever was one. Nicholson was thought to be the slight favorite. When they read Adrien Brody's name it instantly became the biggest upset of the night. No one really knows what happened as the ballots are kept secret, but the rumor out of Hollywood shortly after the ceremony concluded was that there was a large block voting DDL and another large block voting for Nicholson, effectively splitting the vote. This allowed Brody to gain a slight majority with the remaining votes.

Adrian Brody definitely deserved the Oscar for The Pianist.

Eh. I still think impact matters. Its why I think Christoph Waltz should have been nominated for Best Actor in Django instead of Best Supp Act. (they went for the easier chance to win since going against DDL was a sure loss)
