This.
If you watch it through the lens of a kid, it makes sense. His uncle calls him a jerk for God's sake.
If my brother called my 9 year old son a jerk he'd get 5 across the eyes.
I'm always calling my nephews that as a homage to uncle Frank but they're both under 3 years old and don't care so far.

It definitely is a POV type thing, so slightly exaggerated in every way imo, even the things he does to the sticky bandits.
That said, from the POV we get...yeah that whole family is just bad

I don't think I agree. The parents are shitty even when Kevin isn't around. The example Coco keeps bringing up in New York when she blames a concierge for the safety of her child is a perfect example. If the purpose is to make these characters morph to the view of the child, they shouldn't have any scenes where Kevin is vacant. We could probably get this thread to go a few more pages with people posting examples of shitty things Kevin's family does when he is off-screen. I'll start:
Kevin's dad just walks away from two strangers in his foyer to go eat dinner with his family. It's strange to do it if they are two random people. It's weirder considering who they are. One is a pizza guy who is expecting to be paid for the product he delivered. The other is a "police officer". How often is a cop in your home that you would just walk away from him before he actually exits?

Just watched Home Alone and am now watching Home Alone 2. Two things that can be said with certainty: the Mcallister’s are all dickheads and Kevin is treated unfairly.

I was watching the first one with my kid for her first time the other day
I am more jealous all that pizza was only $122. What a country we used to be. Adjusting for inflation that would be a $250 order
