I'm gonna assume his father caught a glimpse of the gift Will was going to give him and was like, "Eww..yeah..no!!, I can't have that up in my house. I gotta get the f*ck on outta here!"
but seriously, haven't seen that since it first came out when I was in high school, but still remember that scene and performance. Always stuck with me being from a divorced home.

The show brings up a question but never gave an answer. Just as in real life, you see a lot of kids from Will's background in households with no fathers. We assume that these fathers are no good dead-beat SOBs. But the blame is on modern feminism.

If memory serves correctly, I believe James Avery was more of a play-actor than TV/movie-actor.
