The wife agreed to a horror night tonight (which is rare) so I must choose wisely.
I am torn between Hereditary and Mandy. For those of you that have seen both, which would you chose? Any other suggestions?

Hereditary was really good so cant' go wrong with it.

I really want to see Mandy. The visual from the trailers looks right up my alley in the surreal/hellish/nightmare feeling/landscape

Hereditary is a serious and pretty emotionally taxing film. There are better choices out there if your wife isn't a horror fanatic.

It's very disturbing, particularly if you have children. The ending actually made me angry.

Okay ... watching it now. Already at the group therapy scene. Just now learning about D.I.D. and all of Toni Collette's character's fricked up family members.

Jonestown: Life and Death of People's Temple is free on YouTube if you want that sort of disturbing.

I loved hereditary almost completely.

Apparently I like scary movies that make me fricking depressed.

Just finished watching it. Was not impressed.

The Exorcist put it to shame. So did the original omen.

Hereditary was to slow to develop, never explained certain things including the connection to Grandmother, Daughter, Granddaughter, then Grandson ... and King Paimon my arse.

The son was poorly cast and the great actor Gabriel Byrne was under utilized.

I tried justifying the whining crying son with saying his feminine crybaby whimpering arse could be explained as morphing from female to male ... the new vessel. Could justify it in my mind.

And the last insult, among many without providing spoilers, did anyone notice that the treehouse, from the inside, was vertical board and batten but from the outside it had clapboard siding?

So many things wrong with this movie.

Kids these days just do not understand good horror.

Good horror?

The Changeling
The Orphanage
The Omen

Always start with The...

The Thing, etc.

I hated the last 15 minutes or so. Enough to almost ruin the whole movie for me.

I like a slow build. If you show me too much I will either laugh or zone out. I hate most new horror for just that reason.

Not arguing on the exorcist (or most of the older and better movies) but I’ve found that horror that plays on my other emotions as well is something I just like

I liked Veronica for the same reason. I just felt so sad for the main character.

Also, I’m an old.

Then you'll understand .... good horror has to be believable. Amirite?

Whatever Happened To Baby Jane

Psycho

The Exorcist

The Omen

Rosemary's Baby

Ghost Story

The Shining

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

There are definitely others, you mentioned some.

There are still some left to be done.
