I watched it a few weeks ago. It was better than I though it'd be, but that's not saying much.
As many have already pointed out, the book is grounded in political and economic themes, not plot and character development. That does not translate well into film.

I've read the book, and I felt like I would have no emotional connection with any of the characters in the movie had I not read the book beforehand.
yeah, thats kinda her in a nutshell
:WARNING NAME DROPPING BELOW:
I was so into her stuff that I read everything I could including her personal life and all about her cheating on her 'gary cooper' husband with Nathienel Brandon..who at the time was himself married to a woman name Barbara..who also has a very intersting book about Ayn out there.
The lengths she went to to 'justify' the affair were ridiculous. If you ever saw her on Phil Donahue late in life, she was incredibly sharp and ripped him to pieces when he tried to bait her on her philosophy of 'self interest'. She used her intellect to argue why the affair was justified but only ended up destroying multiple lives (including her own to some degree) as arguing against her was ultimately futile.
When Nathienel broke off the affair, in a fit of spite she removed his name from her foundation (he was her intellectual heir) and put Leonard Peikoff in.
Everyone knows about Greenspan's early Objectivisim activities as well I'm sure.
Finally, a few years back I found Nathienel's email address and struck up a conversation with him via email. He was suprisingly candid and had quite a few things to say on his time with Ayn and everything that went on. I felt honored being the 'glow' of someone who was that close to one of the most compelling women of the 20th century. Even if you hate her, you cannot deny the impact she has had on people.

Her cult of personality is interesting, to say the least.

Really liked the book. Enjoyed the movie also. People wanna bash it but I enjoyed it enough to hope the follow up movies are done.
