I searched and didn't see anything already. So SIAP.

Just finished this. Where to start?

First I really liked the first 7 books (mostly) and the Harry Potter universe.

Second, what a compete shite show this "book" is. The plot has more holes than Swiss cheese.
1. A long lost time turner? Gimme a break.
2. Voldemort had a kid? Really?!! This is so out of character. Mr. I love nothing and will be immortal needed an heir?
3. Am I to believe that Voldemort who had so destroyed his soul and body to become immortal could even have sex, let alone father a child.
4. The Fidelius charm had been placed on the potter house, and would still have been in effect. How could any of them see it when they traveled back in time?
5. And Cedric is embarrassed during the triwizard tournament and becomes one of the more powerful death eaters?
The characters are terrible. Snape is totally out of character. Delphi is beyond bad. Harry is still hell bent that anything bad should be blamed on the Malfoys.

I refuse to accept this as canon. JK Rowling should be ashamed for letting this be published.

Were any of Dumbledore's lovers mentioned in the book?

No, about as close as we get is Harry telling his painting that he loves him.

I've tried to read the plot summary, but it is such a mess that I can't make it through. The plot is really stupid, because they're trying to save Cedric Diggory (who they've never met) and which saving him would make sure they were never conceived. Did they not think that through, not to mention the various other ways this could effect the continuum? Plus Harry Potter seems to follow "LOST" time travel rules, to where if you ever go back in time and do something, then it always happened that way. It's why Harry wasn't killed by Dementors in PoA.

Yeah, the time travel rules have kinda gotten sodomized in the new book. Rowling was smart when she destroyed all the time turners in the ministry. It gets too messy.

Take it for what it's worth and let it go.
I doubt they ever make a movie out of it, at least that's the intent.
Knowing JK though, I can't imagine she would turn down the huge money grab on it.

Honestly, prequels would be the only way to get back into the Potter universe. I don't know how you would cast any more sequels. They gave you snippets of pre Harry Potter days but they could really delve into those characters more.

I knew nothing about this book but just had a weird gut feeling that I wouldn't like it.

It certainly is very far off from the magic of the previous written material and it can't be thought (at least I can't think of it as such) as a continuation of the written narrative. It doesn't fit and I think most of the negatives have come from people expecting a continuation of such.

However, I can see it as the play, even a film. If they clean up some of the changes and can cast great actors for (spoilers) Albus and Scorpius Malfoy, it fits way better as a film. And, of course, they would need the main characters back and in bigger roles than the script has now, especially for Radcliffe.

I do like his take on it though:

The 27-year-old actor said: “I’m never going to close the door; that would be a stupid thing to do."

“But I think I’ll be happy enough and secure enough to let someone else play it.

“There’s a part of me that’s like, some things are better left untouched.

“If we went back to Potter, there’s a chance we’d make what Star Wars: The Force Awakens was to the original Star Wars, but there’s also the chance that we’d make Phantom Menace.

“So I don’t want to go back to anything like that and maybe sour what people have already loved.”

If you like the Potter films, do it. Not gonna hurt and it is a very, very, very fast read. It is not a book, but a script for the play. Read it as such.

My 8-year-old finished the series and was extremely excited when The Cursed Child came out. He enjoyed it, and also enjoyed the experience of celebrating a book release.

I thought the book was ridiculous. The play has received pretty good reviews, which is strange, because the book reads like poor melodramatic fan-fiction.

Time-travel should be left to Back to the Future and the Terminator.

Me and my wife traveled to London a few weeks back and saw the play! It was really great, I think you have to see the play in person to really enjoy it. The script doesn't do it any justice!

Nice - I'd contemplate going if I could get tickets. That is the Westend? I saw Wicked there a few years back. Nice place. I'd also like to do the HP studio tour.
