Kind of old news now but can't remember seeing it on here before.

Devastating if true, although the show had clearly lost some its magic from its peak circa 2009-12 ish.

Also having the BBC barriers and ip infringement kind of hampered the show as well.

The Grand Tour Has Been Cancelled Because It's Too Expensive

Combined with the trio's salaries, the production and insurance costs are way too high.

Last month we heard a rumor that The Grand Tour will not be renewed for a fourth season on Amazon Prime. The likely reason is the show’s high production costs coupled with the multi-million dollars salaries paid to hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. Today, however, Amazon Prime has apparently made its final decision: season three will be the show’s final season, assuming another network and/or streaming service doesn’t pick it up.

Despite more positive reviews for its second season, The Grand Tour’s first season was not quite everything audiences hoped it would be, namely The American test driver and Celebrity Brain Crash. Both were dropped for season two, which, not surprisingly, was better received than season one.

Clarkson, the also newly minted host of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” in the UK, is obviously devastated by the news.
“For the life of me, I cannot figure out where things went wrong. I blame May, who demanded such a high salary in the first place. No clue why he needs to buy more shirts with patterns worse than 1970s-era wall paper," he wrote on Twitter.

As for Hammond, he’s simply become too accident-prone, especially after his near fatal crash in the Rimac Concept_One last year.

“Those insurance buggers raised his premiums. Again. I really can't believe this is happening. It's like fake news or something,” Clarkson added.

Amazon Prime, so far, has refused to comment. That’s not entirely unexpected considering the decision to give the show the axe was made in the early morning hours of Easter Sunday, which also happens to be April 1st.

Well cock...

I'm very sorry to hear that. It was far from perfect but I loved the show. S2 was better than S1. I look forward to S3.

I can't help but wonder if making it a little more American (not Mike Skinner-style American) would have improved its appeal with American audiences, which I assume is much larger market for amazon. Just about every Brit gets BBC2. I don't know how many have amazon.

Frankly the Skinner segments were an insult to Americans, not all of whom have a great sense of humor.

I know they tried to include an American in their celebrity segment but, as much as I love LSU, Bryan Wilson is less a celebrity and more of a "quirky guy who used to be a good pitcher but now neither pitches nor wears his quirky beard." I'm sure there were plenty of people on both sides of the pond that were confused. Goldberg and Hasselhoff are genuine celebrities but both are well past their prime. Other times it would be two Brits.

Also I feel there were too many cars featured that were not sold in America.

Was it too expensive for amazon because it didn't get the ratings they wanted? Who were they trying to get to watch it? I don't know the answers. I'm just curious.

I'll add that as much as I love Clarkson, Hammond and May, Matt LeBlanc & Co. are doing a great job on Top Gear.

Clarkson put the weenie to them when he got out of sorts and threw a punch at a producer back when they were doing Top Gear. This after several warnings for bad behavior.

Ugh, I tried to watch it with an open mind but found it horrendous.

Sad to see the guys go. One of my favorite shows ever.

Well, Matt LeBlanc is leaving the existing Top Gear. Maybe they'll kiss and make up with Jeremy. Doubt it, though. All good things must end.

Top gear and grand tour have been two of my favorite series. The chemistry those three have... there’s just something endearing about the show. I looked forward to cracking open a cold one and watching their antics every week.

It was a pale shadow of Top Gear. Just not very good most of the time.

I disagree and have watched all the seasons of both. Missing the Stig was a bummer, but everything else felt pretty good.

The specials, cinematography and chemistry were still spot on. I like the SIARPC better in Grand Tour, since they had a much better car . The test track was plenty good.

I had no idea season 3 was out.

Last couple episodes of season 2, Hammond looked pretty skittish about the stunts.

Are you talking about the first season post-Clarkson-May-Hammond, TG S23? If so I agree. Chris Evans was horrible, the cast was much too cumbersome and they tried to be too inclusive, giving everybody screen time. I understand it was a big adjustment for everyone, the audience included, and they definitely stumbled out out of the gate.

By S24 they had paired it down to a much more workable arrangement with Matt Leblanc as main host, Chris Harris and Rory Reid as sidekicks, Eddie Jordan and Sabine Schmidt as guest correspondents, and Chris Evans gone altogether.
S24 was solid IMO.

To Wade Wilson: The Grand Tour Season 3 has not aired yet. I said I was looking forward to it. While the release date has not yet been announced, it will probably be November or December like the first two seasons.

Agree, the restart with Evans was garbage. Later I regretfully watched an episode with LeBlanc & company. Not much better. LeBlanc's interview with Rob Brydon was painful to watch. Harris & Reid "try too hard". Nothing flows, everything seems forced. It's almost like everyone involved realizes the show is lame (which it is) compared to what it was with Clarkson, May and Hammond. I'll take The Grand Tour, even with its faults, over the new TG any day. To each his own. I will give you Sabine Schmidt though, she was good back in the day with CMH, wish she would pop in on the boys, but then again, if she did, I'm sure the BBC would send her to the gulag.

I never really watched Top Gear and tried to watch Grand Tour.

I couldn't get through it. I didn't realize all the canned pre-written jokes and comebacks would be the whole show.

Did they do that on Top Gear too?

The test track is a joke. The specials are the same worn out formula on a smaller budget. The cinematography is only occasionally on the same level. The segments with the 'stars' is exceedingly lame, forced, and in all but a few occasions an abysmal failure.
