Brienne's chapters except for her last 1-2 sucked. The show has done A LOT better with spicing up her storyline.

How big of an army did Stannis bring?
Posted on 6/18/14 at 7:26 am to UMRealist
Stannis has a famous quote later on saying that he smashed Mance Rayder's host even though he outnumbered him 20-1.
So if Mance had 100k, Stannis has around 5K.

But, 5k in metal armor, disciplined and well led were more than a match for the wildling horde. I always thought of the 100k as being the entire host - old, weak, children, and the fighting force was closer to 40k to 50k (maybe a few more, the wildling women fight, too) - more than a match for 100 at Castle Black - if they can breach/scale - but quite another thing to face Stannis' legitimate mounted force in the open.
ETA: I have abandoned the Hodors to their ignorance and paranoia.

That's what I always thought too.

I think your synopsis is dead on.

if you are doing a combined read of feast and dance there is an epub to load onto your kindle/nook/cell phone. unless you are one of those weirdos who like to actually touch the books you read and refuse to go the technological route.
i can email it out if you want it.

I haven't lurked the Hodor finale thread yet...I'm sure it's interesting.

As I indicated, the ignorance and paranoia have become unbearable - one Hodor more stupid than the next. Remembering things that happened in Season 1 is apparently spoilerish. As is watching the DVD extras - published by the show's creators. Asking, "Why did Tyrion kill the whore?" and having to be explained that "Tywin was not the king." - it just got to be too much. I've avoided the middle ground threads because near the end of last season, they were stacked to the rafter with spoilers.
But - I'm just past the Hodor stage now. I'm going to read as much as possible this off season and split time between here and the maester thread (one of which will become redundant if the fat man doesn't get of his arse and start writing).

Oh, and I've forgotten the debate over, "Why didn't Mance just have everyone climb the wall?"
Or, "They could have constructed a giant pulley and pulled people over the wall."
The more I get read this summer, the more I will belong here.

Sweet Jesus. Someone thought that Tywin was the King?
And someone put this gif in the Hodor thread to Nativebullet:

I had already deleted all of my posts from the thread at that point, because of the paranoia. I lived through the pulley and even had some fun with it.
Someone thinking that Tywin was the king or wondering why Arya laughed when told Lysa was dead - those were the last straws for me. I'm officially a middle grounder, now.

The actress the plays Marcella, isn't allowed to read the books, so when Joeffery died she thought she was the queen. She went on vine or tumbler and posted a video of her having a tiara placed on her head.

Seriously I can recommend that entire thread, now, as a recovering Hodor, purely for the entertainment value.
It's like they are a different species (most of them - some are good people and will eventually be driven here and to the books to escape the chasm of ignorance over there.)

ha thats really strange.
and to ace, i havent read the books but abandoned the Hodor thread after season 2. the middle ground thread is actually the best place for discussion i feel. you get to learn the differences in the books without being spoiled and talk about why the show did certain things.
