So, the wife and I saw this pop up on a list of available movies under "comedy" and decided to give it a shot.

The cast is absurdly packed (though I imagine some of them weren't big yet):

Jack Nicholson (starring)
Mary Steenburgen
Christopher Lloyd
John Belushi (playing a Mexican cop...)
Danny DeVito
Ed Begley Jr.

Also...
Richard Bradford (who was in a movie starring a young Helen Slater called "The Legend of Billie Jean" that, despite poor reviews, I really want to see now)
Veronica Cartwright
Tracey Walter (because Jack was in it...)

The thing that got me is that, while it's a pretty good movie, I wouldn't call it a "comedy". It's got some funny moments, but maybe just too subtle for me? I think of late 70's era comedies and I think of "Airplane!", but still...

Even so, it's a pretty good movie. It was a bit weird seeing some of those so damned young. This was made in 1978, so Christopher Lloyd is 7 years before Back To The Future (but admittedly just starting Taxi), and it is literally the first thing on Mary Steenburgen's list (only 25 when this was made).

If you haven't seen it and like westerns with a bit more levity, I'd suggest it - but don't expect a constant barrage of jokes like other comedies. It has great moments, but is generally more absurd situation than anything else.

I Can Do This Allll Day Long!

Classic semi-forgotten 70s Nicholson role because he did so many of them in the decade.

It's not on the level of The Last Detail for me, but it's a must watch for anyone who likes watching good acting.

I believe it's Steenbergen's film debut as well.

Pacino and Deniro get most of the pub for dominating the 70s, but Jack is really the king of that decade.

I took a gander at it the other night. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can see what Nicholson channeled for his Art Land character in Mars Attacks.
