But they also gave him electrical powers in that film.
They have always enhanced Kong in these movies to try to justify him being competitive with Godzilla. Based on their individual movies Kong is basically a 25-50' gorilla and Godzilla is a 100 meter tall reptile with nuclear breath.
I prefer Kong movies, but H2H they're a mismatch.

Have not seen the movie but have seen some clips. I knew kind of how it was going to go. No way they could have a clear winner.....would piss off half the audience either way it went.
By biggest gripe is that the 2 are not originally comparable. While I recognize that Godzilla's size has changed some over the years....they had to scale Kong up something like 25xs to even make it remotely fair.
The orginal Kong climbed the Empire State building.....Godzilla would just have pushed that shite over.

While the ending of the film does look somewhat ambiguous, Toho confirmed that King Kong was indeed the winner in their 1962–63 English-language film program Toho Films Vol. 8, which states in the film's plot synopsis, A spectacular duel is arranged on the summit of Mt. Fuji and King Kong is victorious.
