I'm thinking Cersei decides to confess for real, and Tommen is torn apart by the Faith Militant for being an abomination.

I was thinking he returns to KL but sends some men to the north. he sends help, not necessarily goes himself.

They build the episode as this epic standoff with Jamie and the Lannister forces vs Blackfish and the smaller Tully force holed up in Riverrun.
What we actually receive is Riverrun given up without a fight and Blackfish dying for nothing offscreen when he could've gone north with Brienne and Pod to join up with Jon and Sansa.
Big buildup little payoff is the theme of the show since Hardhome.

This is how I picture Jamie going out: Fighting WWs and successfully striking one of the Lieutenants just to figure out his sword doesn't kill it. HE is then stabbed, just as Brienne turns to witness it and she, in turn,attacks out of rage and ironically kills the WW with his old sword he gave to her. She says her final goodbyes and with his last act, he kisses her and then he dies.
