I have a friend watching GOT for the first time and they just finished the 5th season. I told them that the end of Season 6 might be the two best episodes in HBO history.

How did they take such a revolutionary TV series and burn it to the ground?

House of Dragon will hopefully continue to be great because this universe can be HBOs money market for a long time with Aegons Conquest, Roberts Rebellion, Dunk and Egg, etc

First four seasons are verbatim the books. Not only that but the absolutely brilliant dialogue was just copied and pasted from the books as well. Once they deviated from GRRM it was a dip in quality but still the best show on TV. Showrunners ego grew and began to believe their own hype. Signed on to multiple projects like Star Wars, and straight up half assed the last 2 seasons. In the process their hack writing was fully exposed. That’s really all there is to why the show fell apart.

Those after shows talking about the show were so fricking lame. That goes for any show that does them.

No they aren't. I'd say season 1 definitely is, but after that, they deviated quite a bit.

With good reason. GOT was almost universally watched on Sunday nights at 8. It was the last gasp of scheduled TV. And it was on pace to be the greatest show of all time, had they not fricked up the last 2 seasons. There’s a constant “what could have been” with that show

Still haven’t started hotd. GoT left such a shite taste in my mouth that I just don’t care. It can be fantastic but the Targs were never my favorite, I’m not a massive prequel fan to begin with, and kinda know where it all goes anyway.

To those who enjoy it you’re better and less vindictive than I am

Wasn’t season 6 exclusively new material as well? And season 6 fricking ruled.

Don’t let that abomination of season 7 & 8 prevent you from watching HOTD. Was pretty damn good season 1.

I'll just say it, I was in the same position as you but the first season of House of the Dragon is brilliant.

I felt the same way, but it's worth watching.

Get some HOT D in your life.

It was a mixture of material. There was enough source material to keep it afloat. They had a really good director for winds of winter. But then next two seasons no source material.
