Official Trailer was released today. Movie is based on Newton Knight and stars Matthew McConaughey. Doesn't seem like an Oscar contender but an interesting subject nonetheless.

Thoughts?

it looks like a history channel special and that trailer gave away way too much of the story.

I'll probably still see it

Looks alright. Not something I'd go to the movie theaters to see.

Scratched it off my list of movies to see in 2016.

Yep, this might be the worst place to talk about this film.

It was either here or the OT

I had never heard of Newton Knight prior to production beginning on the movie. I think it's an interesting premise. It provides an alternate view of the Confederacy

The only alternate view of the Confederacy I want is the one where they win

I heard that the movie ends with a Rocky IV type of speech where McConaughey suggests that the Confederacy lays down their arms and he is met with cheers from both the blue and the grey.

Then Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" plays over the credits.

Oh it's interesting. But this is the same board who viewed "12 Years Of Slave" as a white guilt film.

It looks like visually they got things right

Already hearing concern it will be another white savior/slavery film, but don't assume that because @vikki_bynum did something more complex.

Vikki Bynum is the author. She responds by pointing towards class-based insurrection against the confederacy vs "White Savior".

Also after scanning her website, she appears to focus on challenging the, "Lost Cause" myth and the romanticism around the Civil War.
