i am in the middle of season 4 and i find it to be one of the most overrated shows ever. most of the characters are extremely unlikeable and annoying. it is taboo to talk bad about it on this board so expect a lot of hate mail
I used to be in the other camp. Season's One and Two were great but everything was fresh and new and the setup for the series was interesting...it took two seasons just to get to know the characters well and everyone settle into their roles.
Season 3 had great comic relief and season 4 - felt like the end and maybe should have been.
Season 5 was massive hangover. As if the writer's said now what? And then there was a writer's strike...and then monkeys were hired to write the finish to the series.
Walter White became unwatchable and almost as unlikeable as Skylar - the whole series became too heavy-handed and morose and repetitive. We get it, you wanna cook more freakin' METH!
I enjoyed the show before this last dumpster fire. But in hindsight, it is overrated to be fair. It has little range and is too insular.

This board always makes me laugh. They will unwaveringly defend shows like Breaking Bad, and then turn around and piss on people who think Borat is stupid.
I've yet to start Breaking Bad, but I still intend on picking it up eventually to see what its all about. Just getting more and more difficult to find the time to pick up a new show with all I already watch. Hell, I'm still a season behind on Mad Men.

Yet it is the best show of all time. Breaking Bad fans will never admit it. Terrible characters are terrible.

Agreed. Only two good characters on the show. Saul and Mike.

To the OP, enlighten us on what a good drama is. What are you a fan of?
Or, just keep trolling.

Good call. If you don't like Breaking Bad you are trolling. GroupThink, how do it work?

in what way?
terrible as in, I don't identify with them? Not interested in them? hate them?
How can anyone not think Gus was a great character??
same with Walter. You can hate him, but you can't call him terrible

to each his own, but I cannot see how people could not be interested in the characters
Sure, I don't personally identify with them. I may not like them and I think they are, for the most part, devoid of any moral compass, but they at least interest me
Saul is great. I'd love a spinoff, maybe a prequel type thing, because I want Mike there too

I want Saul and Mike to do a late night talk show. That would be the tits.

I haven't watched Season 5 yet, but I felt you had an honest critique, so let's see if we can build from there.
first, the show is called "Breaking Bad". It is the descent of one ordinary man into a villain. Remember Season One? "You can't just break bad". This show posits that you can. (Gus also likely followed a similar path as Walter).
I think the fact you're with Walter the whole way until you realize he's not the guy you should be rooting for is pretty great. and it felt organic.
Also, to go against the grain... I like Skyler. Her complaints are well-grounded and perfectly legitimate. OK, she's overly controlling, but I like that she is perhaps the greatest threat to Walter throughout the series. As he becomes a drug kingpin, he still gets henpecked at home.
I do feel the show is over the top at times, especially the two Brothers from Mexico, who were almost supervillains. But I'm not watching it for gritty realism.
And I don't think I've ever seen a show use silence like this one does. So many great scenes are just simple facial movements. Or Gus tapping his fingers in the elevator. And any show that can give me an episode like the one with Jessie trapped in the meth house with that neglected kid is okay by me. I'm willing to overlook flaws for an episode like that.

I bet the same people who say the characters in Breaking Bad are not interesting will say the ones in Treme are.

I agree completely and have enjoyed watching the show. If anything, it's fun to watch, where other shows that are worshiped on here by some are boring as hell.

like I said earlier
Walter's changing into a villiam mirrors his explanation of chemistry in the first episode. Breaking Bad is a study of change. Everyone changes.
quote:and music. The montage of prison killings was AWESOME

the 2nd to last episode of season 4 with Walt screaming at Skyler then laughing hysterically as he achieved that spooky manic state was AWESOME
