This time capsule movie features, for more or less the first time, lead roles by Perry King, Sylvester Stallone and Henry Winkler. Pre-fame for all. Many scenes shot in a close view POV style.

Apparently this film was the respective lead piece for 50s greaser culture that spawned Winkler as Fonzi in Happy Days, some degree of Stallone in Rocky ETA: The Outsiders as well perhaps, and for King, nothing huge despite his servible lead role performance. Also like contributes to Grease and others.

I can see this movie not taken well at the time it was released and even now by many. Scenes are often snoozy but there is much historical context for true film appreciationatos. At 35 minutes an interesting scene where King and Stallone trade shoulder punches evinces a rough early Rocky persona that would persist for decades later. Winkler seems very underutilized but effective nonetheless.

The audio is pretty off balance at times. Overall most definitely a raw rough feel. That’s the beauty and the curse.

But bear in mind this isn’t even a good movie by most standards, but it’s cool and a good look at soon to be great actors breaking in their craft.

Btw, Perry King, Hailing from Yale and some Juliard, did okay but had some odd underachieving years.

Grease, the play, started in 1971.

I saw that Flatbush was on Prime, hadn't seen it in ages, may have to watch it again.

Apparently, when Stallone was pitching Rocky around the studios, one of the studios asked his assistants what Stallones previous credits were. He was told The Lords of Flatbush and that studio head mistakenly thought Stallone was Perry King. He okayed Rocky thinking he was getting King in the lead.

See that’s the kind of back story cool stuff I hope to evoke from the film study of otherwise bad movies. Thanks. Haha. Perry was quite excellent here not sure why he didn’t go higher.
