There is only one thing better than a good "hero" to any story.. a kick arse opponent, competitor, enemy, or rival.

So what do you guys have:

My first choice to start the discussion:

Gustavo "Gus" Fring, so well acted by Giancarlo Esposito, never have I ever been so on edge by a character in a work of fiction, than when he showed up on the screen, you didn't know if he was going to put a bullet in the next person's head, or give them a hug.. just amazing.

ADDED: Since it has been mentioned, this can be an antagonist that we LOVE or HATE, it's all about the fact that the antagonist "makes" the story, similar to how people talked about the Joker in the 2nd batman movie.

Spike from BTVS is a favority TV antagonist. Don't know if that fits your category because he ends up being "good" in the end but those first few seasons he was great as the bad guy.

Awesome movie, he was a real d#ck. I wonder if the director anticipated how good it would turn out.

Also Cartman, biggest little a$$hole evar.
