Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown plays the younger sister of the legendary private detective (played by Henry Cavill). When their mother (Helena Bonham Carter) goes missing, the youngest Holmes sibling goes off on a quest to find her.

I like the cast. And I've liked the different takes on Holmes I've seen the last few years between Sherlock and the Downey /Law Sherlock Holmes movies.

Will check this out. Should be a fun watch.

The funny thing is, its adapted from a young adult book series that was nominated for multiple Edgar Awards. It was supposed to be released in theaters but Netflix acquired it instead.

It seems weird that they pre teen girl would be solving this instead of the world class grown man detective

The entire YA literature genre is built on this.

Apparently Sherlock and Mycroft are uninterested in finding their mother as they both conclude that she left of her own volition. Enola is a bit more attached and, unlike her older brothers, feels emotions. She refuses to believe this and sets out to find out the truth for herself.

All this explanation does really is hinder the mythos of Sherlock Holmes, it doesn’t really set up the plot in a satisfying way. Would make more sense if Sherlock gets kid napped early on or him not coming into play until the end instead of being like “ahh this case just slipped passed the greatest detective in the world and his little sister had to pick up the slack”

I’m picking nits on a movie I’ll probably never watch so I’ll stop myself there

I’ll watch
What makes stranger things so good is they picked a great cast

This would’ve tanked at the box office but will do well on Netflix

Not sure why people treat Goonies as reasonable entertainment, yet a girl detective film is problematic on multiple levels.

Agree. And then you add in Mycroft who is supposed to be even smarter than Sherlock, and he doesn't care either. What kind of person was the mom where her two sons just automatically assume she abandoned them and their sister?

The kind of people Mycroft and Sherlock are: psychopaths. They don't feel like normal people do and their emotions are almost non-existent.

Or he could just do what Jesus's step-father did and not wait at all.

The law was different in those days. In ancient Rome, during the reign of Augustus, girls as young as the age of 12 were considered "of age."
