= AIDS with the corresponding time frame of dr's not knowing a whole lot about the disease. it could be anything but in the movie it was framed as a virus so i don't think cancer is a viable option.

Pretty sure Jenny had the aids. She got it in the late 70's early 80's and said it was some new disease that the doctors weren't familiar with. I'm no AIDS expert, but isn't that when AIDS starting becoming prevalent (at least in disease terms)?
The movie ends in 1983 I believe.
In the sequel, Forrest meets Reagan, the Clintons, and Saddam. Also plays for the Saints and is involved in the Valdez spill.

Well, seeing as how AIDS is not a virus, I assume it was HIV. I'm pretty HIV positive that's what she had.

Jenny is also kind of a plot device to explore the counter culture of the 60s and 70s. Forrest, given his character, wouldn't be able to experience those things.

True. She and Forrest really were sort of polar opposites.
She was raised by a drunk, abusive father and no mother while Forrest was raised by a loving, caring mother and no father.
She was loose, free spirited slutbag with little to no love in her, while Forrest was a structured, disciplined, respectful figure who loved all those who ever took the time to give him a chance in life.
Forrest should have found some nice little girl at Alabama to settle down with and let Jenny rot her whore arse off while doing lines of blow off of Jimi Hendrix's guitar while John Holmes banged her up the bunghole.

im pretty sure the audience is meanto to believe she died of AIDs, but the fact neither her son or forrest were sick would be remarkable. the kid more so.
