That sounds stupid.

There's probably a reason why you do not make a living as a scriptwriter.

Good thing Norman Lear wrote it 46 years ago, then.

ABC should do this again. Maybe with a Happy Days/Laverne and Shirley tribute. Or maybe do other Lear/ATF spinoff shows like Maude and Good Times.

ABC doubled their usual Wednesday night sitcom ratings. I'd guess we'll see this again over the next year.

If they're sticking to the minimal set sitcoms, I'd hope for Soap or Barney Miller. But they'll probably go with your suggestions, or Sanford and Son.

So this has come and gone, and all of the predictions in the multiple threads on this being an attack on Trump and conservatism were wrong. They didn't change the scripts, they didn't update any of the social and political jokes, they played it as it was originally. Other than bleeping out the N word a couple of times, I didn't notice any changes at all.

IMHO the standouts were those that didn't do an impression of the original characters or didn't play it over the top (Wanda Sykes, Ike Barinholtz, Anthony Anderson). Even Jackée Harry and Will Ferrell, who you'd expect to overdo it, pulled back for a couple of good performances. Marla Gibbs was of course flawless. And it was nice for them to close the show with her punchline.

ETA: It's on the ABC app, unedited, if anyone wants to watch it.

Agreed. The only casting that seemed wildly off to me was Harry Bentley.

Not sure why he didn't attempt a British accent.

One downside from this show is that some older men will now have confusing sexual thoughts about Edith Bunker.

It's bad for the iron lung business, is it not?

WTF are you talking?Does a normal sitcom get that much advertising? Box office stars like Will Ferrell and Woody Harelson?

What advertising? On ABC? Most people in here heard about it in here or on ABC.

Will Ferrel does guest appearances on sitcoms. He’s not Marlon Brando. Woody’s last roles were on a Netflix movie and the post-credits scene in Venom. The cast for this show didn’t get top dollar.

It’s a win for ABC. Just like those live plays on NBC did well for them.

LMAO!Are you freaking kidding me. Spots for the show were on ad nuaseum...ya do know air time cost money even if it's a network spot, correct?

Woody can pick and choose his roles and doesn't GAS. You have no idea how much or little they were paid.I can promise you Marla Gibbs and Jamie Gibbs didn't take a flier on their appearance.

Wow! There might not be a more clueless poster on this board. And that's saying a lot.

Network promos are built into their spot schedules. They’re not passing up advertiser dollars to promote their own shows. If they didn’t use the spot to promote this show it would’ve gone to another show’s promotion.

Welcome Back Kotter and Taxi.

I'd like to see who they get to fill out those two casts.

Had absolutely no interest in this. While the grill was heating up Saturday my wife just happened to turn it on just as the replay was starting and we were sitting on the couch.

Laughed so much that we recorded it and watched it after the burgers were done. Can easily say it was one of the funniest things I've seen in awhile.

The racial humor was wonderful. Felt like it was evenly distributed among both groups. Enough bite to be funny and proper cast reactions to not make anybody a hero to racists of either side.

Never watched All in the Family and I'm only vaguely familiar with The Jeffersons. Now I have to see if either is on Netflix or something similar. I thought it was really funny and well done. Not sure I need to see a bunch of these, but very enjoyable on the DVR (to skip commercials).

Jeffersons is on the Starz app and All in the Family is on the Crackle app.
