Well, his knight utterly and completely fails... and his failure isn't even dramatic, as it is offscreen. If that was his intent, and I see no reason to argue with the director, I don't think he achieved his intent.

Also, this is a personal taste thing. I'm willing to forgive a visually uninteresting film if it has great dialogue and writing. I would think, based upon his posts, someone like Superior Pariah is the exact opposite in his tastes. We subscribe to different aesthetics. Diff'rent strokes and all.

True. I like that you argue your opinions in an intelligent way and I enjoy reading them even if you and I look for completely different things in the movies we watch.

I just finished watching it and don't get the hate

or how it's an amazing film.

I enjoyed it and didn't think it was boring at all. Once the husband was introduced I did find it suspenseful.

As far as the believability of some aspects of it goes, I have always seen Gosling as the hick in Remember the Titans. That's changed now. He played the part of the "Detached, off in his own world, playing by his own rules, criminal very well. I could see him playing a serial killer after this movie.

I do get how everyone was impressed by Goslin's contribution to the film. I have lived around some strange guys that caused me to wonder exactly what they did for money. He definitely gave that vibe that would make you know not to ask.

I enjoyed the way they used lighting, shadows, angles and other visual elements along with motion to enhance the film. I'm wasn't enamored with the soundtrack like most but I'm older than most of you guys & didn't recognize a single song.

As far as Goslin's character's speech goes, I think we are supposed to assume every response he gives is thought out (kind of weighed or measured) as to how it will affect his current getaway/escape/plan. These plans are constantly changing as his "road" changes.

I will recommend it to my friends.

I thought the husband was going to attack driver when they first met. His tone made it seem like he was threatened by him "helping out".

Yea, most fresh out of prison guys wouldn't appreciate another guy being there while he isn't around. Most would resent him helping out with their woman and their kid. Husband was quite the dumbass and needed all of the help he could get.

Finally got round to watching this tonight. As with all movies, I went into it having read zero reviews and knowing very little about the style and structure of the film outside of word of mouth and a few threads on this board which I perused to get a general feel for how people found it.

And I have to say, it is a fricking brilliant movie. Cinematography and soundtrack were phenomenal and the mood/tempo was executed very well. Style and substance. Good acting jobs by all. I wasn't bored for one minute.. was glued to every scene actually. Props to the director, the DP and Gosling. Bravo all around.

For sure. I'm about to buy a Chromatics album or two. Really dig their style.

Also had a question about the film **SPOILERS BELOW**

What do y'all think was the significance of him wearing the mask while he stalked and killed Nino? Have a few ideas/interpretations, but I couldn't quite gather exactly what the director was trying to convey there.

Good question...the mask was so bland and emotionless, like he was

I'm going back and forth between the director just wanting to have some freaky imagery (which he accomplished for sure) and trying to impart that the Driver was making a transformation or covering up his true self or hiding the shame of having to kill these people.

I read a interpretation that it was him blurring the lines of real life and movie life since he wore that mask during his stunt scenes. That's probably the easiest and most basic (ie boring) interpretation.
