Yeah, I assumed they did. I also assumed that the guys had another car there or something.

Or Gosling just pulls in there, parks, gets out, and the guys are still sitting in the back seat like, "wtf?"

Yes. He leaves them with the loot, in a crowded garage, surrounded by cops. He gets away, but the chances those guys (who are still in the car that matches the description the cops are looking for) get away are slim to none. I thought the scene, set up to show his badassery, actually shows a failed job.

I kinda go back to when the driver was picking up the car and Shannon says, "chevy impala, most popular car in the state of california..."

by him parking it in the garage, im assuming it allows the robbers, some time to get their bags and bolt out some back way. Yea the cops arrived, but I think the point of that was for dramatic effect, ie a close call

I don't know about you, but I'm about to watch this movie again right now.

Just so I can revel in the shear awesomeness of it and mend the heart that Baloo broke.

Sorry.

If it makes you feel better, I really liked the chase sequence. Or when Albert Brooks goes off on Ron Pearlman. Great scene.

No, that does nothing for me.

What I need for you to do is go back and edit all of your posts in this thread and replace them with "this movie is awesome"

How about this....

Given the quality of films in 2011, Drive was one of the best movies of that year.

Albert Brooks
loved each scene he was in

him killing Shannon was such a great sequence. You can tell he didn't really want to do it, but that's what makes him a dangerous gangster. His ability to make decisons removed from emotion

It's been the best movie this whole decade so far.

Everybody's piling on Baloo. We know his opinions are founded in logic, reason, and appreciation of film.

He's not a fly by, "Drive sucks balls bro. Where was the action and tits?" as some were.

I don't feel piled on. I disagree with the common consensus and people are trying to change my mind. Which is what they should do. there are many things to like about the movie -- it just has poor characters and a fairly straight forward plot with a resolution I find wholly unsatisfying. But I see why people really like it. The visuals are great.

But the best movie of the decade so far is A Separation. Or Cabin in the Woods.

Yeah Baloo always explains his views very well. His main contention with Drive seems to be the plotting. I can't really quibble with it though since it's now been months since I last saw the movie and the exact plot mechanics I don't really recall that well.

What if Refn said this to you:

quote:

Winding Refn's main inspiration for Drive came from Grimm's Fairy Tales, and his goal was to make a movie that was structured like a fairy tale: condensed in its storytelling and with archetypal characters. Refn sees The Driver as a knight who roams around the countryside searching for people to save.[1] To play with the common theme of fairy tales, The Driver protects what is good while at the same time killing degenerate people in violent ways.[22]

Hey well it must have worked cause I noticed it. From my write up:

quote:

The plotting is standard crime fare but the minimalist approach allows the story to unfold as a violent romance fantasy.
