Loan officers and Underwriters not only are completely not the same thing, but they pretty much also hate each other.

Idiot.

Obviously thats not true for all banks. I work at a med/large bank in 19 states and our loan officers ARE in fact our underwriters. I know that for a fact. I also know of 2 other banks off the top of my head where that is the same case. Maybe it depends on the main type of loans the bank produces. Bank I work for is one of the largest lenders for auto loans you can find.

If you think the actual loan officer(salesman) is the one that makes loans, you are VERY misinformed. This may be the case at the tiny FCU with 2 branches but everywhere else it's the underwriters. They are gods when it comes to lending.

That's what I'm saying, but others here (and Raimi and that crazy old chick in the movie) seem to think otherwise.

Yea what would I know I only work for a bank headquarters that works closely with loan officers (underwriters) as I provide all the resources to them from an IT standpoint so they can MAKE SOLE DECISIONS on customers as to if they provide them a loan. There is nobody that they turn to for approval. But your wife is a realtor so she would know too. But Im glad you think you know something.. Let me get you a cookie.

Loan officers are not the underwriters.

But I only used to be a financial analyst for one of the biggest mortgage lenders in the country.

fricking IT geeks.

I never said this bank was 100% auto loans. They do a small set of mortgages. Its just not the concentration of the bank.

You are an IT geek.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Back on topic, I think this movie looks terrible AND Justin Long is in it so I will never watch it.

How can you say this is true for ALL banks? Are you that nieve? At my bank it is the exact same person. Its how this bank chose to do its business model. We give mostly auto loans, some commercial business loans and some mortgage loans. Hell I just did a fricking google for loan officer/underwriters and it came back with a bunch of job openings to fill a person that is a loan officer / underwriter.. OMG but you worked for a bank that was different..

Sorry. It's true for banks that don't want to fail. Feel better now?

Let me know who you work for so that I never do business with them. Thanks in advance.

Dude, the job search says that they are looking for loan officers OR underwriters, and will place you in one or the other.

Actually, if you want to get specific, having the same person sell and underwrite the loan violates a few accounting principles as well as common business sense. But I don't expect an IT dork to understand that.

Have fun at your failing bank.

Yes, and that person is NOT sitting at the desk dealing directly with the customer, as the broad in the movie is doing.

Seriously, you're fricking retarded, and if you bank has the same person doing both jobs, then it deserves to fail. Nice audit trail, pal.

Good point, re: Satan, but PG-13 kind of kills the horrifying angle.

it's a pretty good movie. a lot better than most horror movies these days, which i know isnt saying much.

good use of surprise, tension building, gross-outs, light violence, scary bad guys/women.

Why are people geeking up this thread?

The movie was actually good. Funny scenes as well as scary ones. Don't go expecting some sort of deep story line, go for the sake of the surprises. This is definitely a movie you'd have to watch with theater sound.

Lots of people jumping in the theater.
