The names alone are enough to laugh at. Merkin Muffley is hysterical. For those that don't know, a merkin is a covering for ones genitals, typically used to cover sores from STDs.

General Turgidson. Turgid means swollen or distended or bloated.

Just spectacular.

I haven't watched it in years, but we watched it in my history class in high school, and I thought it was good.

I'd definitely like to see it now as an adult and see how much funnier I think it is. I may check this one out again in the next week or so..

I didn't mean to dismiss him, but his role was smaller - he held his own with Sellers and that was not easy to do.

For that matter, Peter Bull was great the Soviet Ambassador. When you think about James Earl Jones, Tracy Reed and Shane Zimmer - every speaking role was very well done. While that was more common for the period (let's face it - acting, across the board, was better from the mid-50s to the early-to-mid 70s), the absurdity of the material makes the acting (and directing) more impressive in Strangelove.

When Dr. Strangelove really starts to lose control of his hand towards the very end of the movie, I lose control of my laughter. Wife was sleeping and I was laughing so hard I had to get out of the bed.

I don't throw the word genius around too often, but you can argue at least five worked on Strangelove:

Kubrick
Sellers
George C. Scott
Terry Southern
Ken Adam

Throw in the great cinematographer Gilbert Taylor and some perfectly cast character actors like Hayden and Slim Pickens

hard to frick that up

I agree, but I bet Ed Wood, Jr. could have.

I don't get the humor.....I was told I "had to have been there" during the Cold War to understand it completely.

When i first watched it that is how i felt but as i got a little older then rewatched it i feel in love with it. The phone call to the Russian president is what gets "of course i wanted to speak to you"
