Disagree. Kit is not meant to know it was on purpose.
So she spends all movie trying to prove herself and get out of her sisters shadow, and when she finally does, it's a gift? Nah
Once again, this is not Kits story. Its Dotties.
Dottie realizes after she hits the shot up the middle for the go ahead run that she's ruining her sisters life. She came back because of her competitiveness, but ultimately she realized that it doesn't matter to her. She beats her sister again, and Dottie will still wake up tomorrow and go home. If Kit loses, her dream is dead.

If Marshall (and IDGAF what she says about it now) wanted us to know Dottie dropped it on purpose she would have made it clear in the movie. In the movie, everything that leads to that moment shows us that Dottie had every intention of beating her sister.
There is nothing in the movie that says otherwise. Every opinion in the "dropped it on purpose" camp comes from intangible things that can't be supported by things that actually happen in the movie.

Plenty of tangibles were just mentioned in the last 10 or so posts in this very thread.

Oh but The Karate Kid is cinematic gold?

quote:See this is where I disagree. I think it's about their relationship. Kit is the most emotional and volatile character in the movie. The movie is increasingly tense as their rivalry intensifies (mostly from Kit). Kit is completely consumed with it by the end. Dottie is increasingly confused and unsatisfied. The tension mounts and mounts until Kit finally wins. She finally had what it took to beat her sister. It's a passing the torch type of story. It's about honor, competition, and desire. All those things are sullied if Dottie dropped it on purpose. If that's what Marshall intended then I'd say her film was poorly executed.

The tension was because Kit just couldn't stand how much better Dottie was at everything. It is a story of love of family vs. love of sport. It is a story about honor, competition, and love, not desire. She tried to beat her sister, obviously, but seeing how upset she was and how determined she was (running through the stop sign), Dottie realized it meant more to Kit than her and dropped it because Kit needed it. (for proof, see foreshadowing with Dottie and her grandkids and see the director's comments)
I think people want to believe she dropped it and that grit and hard work can overcome a major talent deficiency, but it just doesn't.

Which is exactly why the comment about making vaginas feel good is actually the other way around. The rosy view is that Kit overcoming odds and Dottie coming to terms with getting beaten. It's a much harsher view to say that

Dottie took made a CHOICE and took ACTION, which is exactly what your heroes are supposed to do.
That is precisely her evolution. To give up what she is good at.
It's EASY to quit when you lose. "I lost, I'm out and don't care anymore." It's much harder to step away when you know you can win.

If there's no tangible evidence for dropping it, there's no tangible evidence for holding on to it either.

There is tangible evidence that she wanted to beat her.
Can't hit the high ones.
Hit the go ahead run off of her.
ETA: I don't know why I'm arguing. I don't care if yall think she dropped it on purpose. I don't think she did, and I think the events leading up to the impact support my opinion.
Perhaps the vag comment was a poor attempt at humor.
Die Hard still isn't a Christmas movie though.
Can't hit the high ones.
Hit the go ahead run off of her.
