I'm on episode 11 and it seems like it is pretty much the same thing every episode. Smoke, drink, cheat on wife, smoke, little guy acts like a tool, smoke, meet with client, smoke, drink, cheat on wife.

ETA: It's not that I really dislike it, I guess I was just expecting something more.

It may be an unpopular opinion, but I never finished Mad Men. It was really up and down. I was actually caught up at one point, through the finale of Season 4 "Tomorrowland" - I missed it when it started back up, and never felt compelled to finish it.

Some of it was excellent. There was a good bit of filler, which isn't really excusable in 13-episode seasons. If you don't like it through episode 11 - I would maybe finish out the season and say you gave the old college try.

If you don't like it after season 1, you will hate it later on. Season 1 got me hooked

Yep, and a top 3 show of the last decade.

Season 1 probably had two top 5 episodes, so if you didn't like Season 1...you should just move on to something more your liking.

I think alot of what i liked about Mad Men were the life experiences i was going through at the time. Not sure i would have liked the show in college.

Don't worry, bro. I appreciated it for what it was, but never craved to watch it. I think it's pretty objectively clear that it's a great show, but it just didn't hold my attention, much like the Americans.

season 5 is GOAT but season 1 is pretty much what it is throughout. they get creative in season 6 but it's pretty much a similar, though at times not easy to predict, structure throughout. loads of character development, tho. just finished the whole series for the first time, and it moved into my top 5 shows of all time.

so if you don't like season 1, i'd say don't waste your time.

I'm just now getting into Season 5. It's a slow developer for sure, but I got hooked. The characters develop at a glacial pace, but I feel like invested so much that I want to see what happens.

Every time I start to like Draper, or at least sympathize with him, or even dare to hope that he's finally starting to improve himself, my hopes get dashed. Now he's just a slow rolling train wreck.

This is no spoiler since I haven't seen the end, but I think I know what the opening credits scene is all about and that he will eventually hit the ground hard.

Betty is so freaking HOT and yet such a terrible person. I should hate her thoroughly, but I can't take my eyes off of her.

Season 1 is fairly dull. I watched it and gave up on the series 3 times. On the 3rd attempt, I finally pushed into season 2 which I really liked along with season 3.

Don't give up unless you still are bored in mid season 2.

I couldn't make it through the second episode. I tried starting it twice, but it just wasn't for me.

Mad Men was a great series that never got great at any one point. No major bombs just a steady diet of Character development. I liked it but it was a different kind of show. It does not change a lot after season 1. If you really disliked it up to this point, your opinion may not change in subsequent seasons

Couldn't disagree more. Season 2 is tremendously more interesting.

Season 1, we have a whole freaking episode about seeing a painting in Bert's office. Yawn. None of that in season 2 where we actually get some interesting backstory and development.

yea, I agree that we get more content and more development but if his opinion so far is that is all about smoke, drink, cheat on wife, smoke, drink, etc at this point, It wont change a lot from here on out.

Mad Men was a great series and I am really glad I spent the time to watch it all but its nothing more than a glorified night time soap.

It's a hard show to binge watch. It's not breaking bad where you have to see what happens next.

Mad men was the perfect Sunday night show. You want to watch it as you wind down a long weekend.

If you finish all of Season 1 and you're not hooked then it's probably not up your alley. It happens.

I always compared to the sopranos. You just kinda like having the characters in your life.

It's Sunday, you are hungover, just ate a big dinner, laying in bed and ahhh mad men is on.

Then I found out the entire mad men staff work on the sopranos.

Mad Men sucked so bad. I watched the first 3 or 4 and I was done wasting my time.
