It's not hard to fathom how this movie got greenlit. They are taking their beloved classics bc there is an established fan base and making them live action. Recent years they have leaned toward the diverse crowd because they figure the established crowd won't leave. That was a huge mistake

They are milking the dying days of the theatre industry for anything they can. With AI and home entertainment and cell phones there is no future in the movie theatre industry.

This board likes to pretend less people go to the movies because the movies arent as good. The real reason people don't go to movies as much is the same reason that u dont see kids playing outside. Kids stay home and stay on their video games or phones.

The industry will be dead in 20 years anyway so they are just pumping out whatever they can to milk the last they can from it.

Streaming is the future and they will use AI to produce that content.

There is nothing to pretend about why people don't go to the movies. It is bc the movies being made are mostly crap. When there is a good movie, people will go watch it.

Last year Barbie and Oppenheimer were 2 movies that had lots of people seeing those movies in the theaters. Oppenheimer had 2 Oscar winning performances from the male actors.

I worked in the movie theater industry. People were talking about its death 20 years ago. Movie studios will never go straight to streaming bc they know the audience will want the movie theater experience.

I get it in theory. They’re remaking everything, some of those movies have made a decent amount of money.

Rachel Zegler has a helluva voice. Gal Gadot starred in one of the most popular female led movies in the last 10 years.

It’s just everything else has been a disaster

That is Hollywood MO right now. They want to remake everything or do a sequel that is 30 years later. They are making a sequel to The Goonies (mistake), and they are doing a Young Guns 3 (mistake).

I get why Disney is making live action off existing IP. They are just making it wrong and then say people are either racist, misogynistic, or homophobic as to why the movie failed to make money.

This is like saying people still watch the same amount of cable because the super bowl ratings arent down.

Show me a graph of TOTAL tickets sold in US theaters this year for all movies and compare that number to 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago.

Yes barbie and inside out 2 and moana 2 made money, but that doesnt mean the theaters arent dying.

The biggest domestic releases this year were to 200 less theaters than last year. They are shutting down

None of that statement made any sense at all. Cable subscription has nothing to do with SB ratings. SB is televised by CBS, Fox, NBC which do not need a cable subscription to watch.

There are vastly more movie theaters than there were 40 years ago so the total ticket sales don't matter to what you think it will. Movie theaters only get so much from the actual ticket. The revenue is based on concession sales.

Also the movie studios produce for the international box office not just domestic. They know for a movie to be really successful it needs the international box office numbers.
