You right, I was thinking of someone else.

quote:

He was briefly on Saturday Night Live as a featured performer, before getting fired for playing his character as a flamboyant gay cop instead of a straight cop. He went against the script during the live performance. In the Saturday Night Live book Live From New York, it was stated that Wayans did this largely due to growing frustrations that his sketches were not being considered for the show and increasing stress

Billy Crystal- Duh
Jim Belushi- ugh
Chris Elliott- classic
Jeanine Garofalo- for a season
Anthony Michael Hall- youngest cast member ever
Julia Louis-Dreyfus- met Larry David there
Chris Rock- no kidding? Next you're gonna say Adam Sandler
Martin Short- another "duh"
Ben Stiller- for just a few episodes

I'm 31 and I only knew about all of these former cast members being on SNL because of Comedy Central showing nearly every season of SNL back 20 years ago. They used to show the hell out of the Dick Ebersol produced (Eddie Murphy/Joe Piscopo/Julia Louis-Dreyfus) years.

yeah, as I've heard the story told Wayans wanted to break out and do a sketch but the writers said no to that character repeatedly.

they fired him for doing the character because he had asked to do it and been forbidden to do it in that sketch.

Didn't know about Shearer, Silverman, or Stiller. The post-Farley/pre-Ferrell era was pretty ugly.

There was no gap. Farley ended in 94, Ferrell started in 95.

Which cast are you talking about?

I thought Jay Mohr was going to be on this list.

The real question is how did you not know half that list?

Some weren't on SNL long so it is understandable but how could you not know Belushi was on SNL? Or Chris Rock?

Martin Short? ED Grimley will haunt your dreams.

Billy Crystal? Really?

I was a bit off, thinking of the 95 cast with:
Morwenna Banks
Ellen Cleghorne
Chris Elliott
Chris Farley
Janeane Garofalo
Norm Macdonald
Michael McKean
Mark McKinney (1995)
Tim Meadows
Mike Myers
Kevin Nealon
Adam Sandler
David Spade
Al Franken (F)
Laura Kightlinger (F)
Jay Mohr (F)
Molly Shannon (F) (1995)

Didn't realize it still had Farley, Meyers, Sandler, Spade, and Nealon still. I think the rest of the cast was terrible, though, given that Norm hadn't really become a key player yet.
