Watching last night I had a debate with myself that I’ve had in the past.
When Quint is full steaming it to land when the boat starts to sink it’s pretty evident that the engine was going to fail in a boat that was taking on water. Was this out of
A) terror and fear about his past history being in water with sharks
B) Because he was obsessed with killing jaws and wanted to set up a final showdown.
C) Because he thought it was his destiny to go down with ship/he had guilt for surviving the Indianapolis.

I think he concluded the shark was going to destroy the boat no matter what, so why not make a run for shore and maybe get lucky.

Because fishermen will club or bleed a large fish. Some for humane reasons, some to keep it from flopping all over the place.
