The series doesn't follow the books exactly, so I don't know if that is what he is referring to. Deb didn't know. And I think she was referring to herself when she was talking about "thinking you know someone when you don't". Like she never thought she would let killers go.
I thought it was a great ending to a great season. Another "Mind blower" ending would have been too much after last season. I was thinking Lumen might kill herself or something once all the bad guys were dead, but I'm glad she didn't.

I had no idea there were books.
Either way, I'm glad I'm not the only one that got zero hints that Deb knew during this episode.

The only nagging thing is what, then, did Deb mean when she said to Dexter something along the lines of "you must be glad this whole thing is finally over"? Why did she think the barrel girls case would affect Dex that much?

I've only read the first 2, and the show didn't follow the books word for word. Where is your confidence on this matter coming from? If you're being intentionally vague, you've still got me interested
I'll bet any amount of money you want to name that it is revealed next season that she realized the truth.
P.S. I have sort of an advantage here. Fair warning.

Boring season finale IMO....

And, Deb knows it was Dexter and Lumen in the room. That was obvious to me
i think its obvious that she knew it was # 13, but how does deb know #13 is lumen & lumen's companion is dex?

What the frick do you think she was talking about when she had the conversation with Dexter toward the end about people not being who you thought they were?

I think she was alluding to herself as much as Quinn.

Dexter looked so disappointed when Lumen said she was leaving. He was looking forward to banging her on a regular basis.

I was watching carefully when he flipped and did not see any of his blood anywhere in the car.
Pretty sure I saw blood. He was bleeding from his forehead.

I think she might have had an idea, that's what I got from her conversation with Dexter at the end. I wonder how they'll go with the Dexter/Quinn thing in the future.

Dexter looked absolutely shattered when he got caught by Deb. Also, I would think his next kills are going to feel more empty without the additional righteousness of killing for a real purpose, like helping Lumen. Couple those things with Astor and Cody wanting to live with him, Quinn knowing what he knows, and even Lumen not being able to live with her dark passenger, and I think Dexter is going to potentially have some serious soul searching to do.
I'll be interested to see who his next kill is. We'll see how much he is growing as a person next season for sure.
I'm not sure how the show will change if/when Dexter becomes a primary suspect in a murder investigation(s). We as the viewers have been able to enjoy Dexter's position of having no one else really know about and react to his abhorrent behavior. When suddenly everyone knows and he's an outcast, an uncommon criminal, a monster, it seems like our perspective of Dexter will change. I doubt he will seem so normal then. Will we still feel empathy towards him? Guess I should read the books.

The fact that they didn't show Deb finding the flipped car says that they won't do anything else with this. IMO. They would have atleast showed a small clip of her seeing it. I was actually expecting her to find it as she drove up, and was very suprised when they excluded it all together.

I thought the scene with Lumen telling Dexter she had to leave was amazing.
Here is Dexter who has finally shown someone everything that he is and she seems to be totally ok with it, but in the end rejects him for what he is.
He was devastated.

At least hendo is observant.
And I may be an a-hole but not because of Dexter.
But, yes, the writers' intent is that Deb thinks she recognized Lumen and Dex. If you really, really think back about the DVD's and her previous encounter with Lumen, and her conversations with Dex, I think it becomes more obvious.
