I think this film gets a bum rap. Outside of the terrible CGI transformation scenes that should have been done practical having Rick Baker on set, I can't find anything else to fault. It had great atmosphere/setting, a top notch cast, nice homages to the original film, and great make up. I'd much rather Universal make a multiverse with this tone than the action-centric Tom Cruise Mummy film or the recent Dracula.

Agreed, i enjoyed that it was more like a 1940s classic horror movie rather than a modern action film.

I liked the operating room transformation scene. Usually I like my werewolves with a longer, more wolfish snout, but the creature's design was perfect. Underrated, I agree.

Underrated movie.

I don't remember if they ever showed the mother in any flashback scenes, but they'd have needed a swarthy actress to make anybody believe del Toro was Anthony Hopkins' son.

Bad lessons from this, much like The Thing prequel.

They cast it right, the script was good but they let down on having the special effects be cgi.

They showed the mom. It was some Spainish actress that slightly resembled Emily Blunt.

People don't like this movie? I thought it was great. I liked Del Toro in the role and I'll watch anything with Hopkins who killed it btw. I didn't think the CGI was that bad. I've seen way way worse in big budget summer blockbusters.

I’m a sucker for anything Hugo Weaving does and with Anthony Hopkins in it: sign me up.

Enjoyable Movie

i remember taking my wife to see this on valentine's day. she wasn't pleased.

It's been on Cinemax lately but you're right. None of the regular cable networks ever seem to carry it.

I watched the unrated version and it was super gory. I can't remember how violent the theater version was.
