The movie’s name is The Deer Hunter, and the kind of deer they shoot isn’t even a deer we have in the US. fricking Hollywood.

Not the Appalachians either.

Took me 3 separate attempts to get through the whole wedding scene.

There's at least about 15 minutes of that wedding scene that should have been left on the editing room floor.

This was Cazlae's last film. He was fighting cancer during filming. The producers wanted to replace him and that pissed Streep off. Deniro put up his own money to pay for the insurance for him. He died before the finished film was released.

We used to quote the Vietnamese yelling "MO!" during the roulette scene when we were in college. Tried a rewatch the other day and agreed it's just too long but still a good film.

The cast (DeNiro, Streep, Walken, Savage, etc.) performances were also perfect.

This is what makes the movie watchable. The story itself is a hot mess.

I keep meaning to look up the actress who played Fredo's drunk date at the bar when Fredo asks Dinero's character if she was pretty. I can't put my finger on who she is but seems she has been in some movies recently

Great movie but I can't lie, I fast forward through some of the wedding scene.

I love the early scenes with the guys and the hunting trip, Meryl Streep was great as usual. They all were great, DeNiro, Walken, Cazale...

I think people who lived through the Vietnam War appreciate it much more.

The thread on the OT about small town PA being a top retirement destination reminded me of that.

That was a depressing town, like Russian industrial waste city depressing.

As far as the movie it’s up there but not quite the greatness of an Apocalypse Now.

Great film.

It's one of the few movies I can name that shows the before, the during, and the after of the Vietnam war.

It's long, but I'm guessing Cimino wanted viewers to be fully invested in the characters as the story unfolded.
