I saw the show on Broadway with the original cast, and Ben Platt was fantastic. That said, I was hoping that they might cast an unknown in the lead for the movie version.
It’s a very polarizing show. The music is phenomenal and the message is positive, despite having a protagonist who isn’t always easy to like because of the choices he makes.

Ben Platt's just continuing a time honored tradition dating back to at least the 70s.
In all seriousness, I don't mind it seeing as he's "the guy" for that role and played it so well. I've suspended belief before when it comes to almost 30 year olds playing high school kids. At least this time it's for a relatively valid reason.

I've never seen the story, but I listen to the soundtrack all the time. I'm looking forward to it.
