Following a panel discussion about television writing at the 36th Vancouver International Film Festival, “Better Call Saul” writer and executive producer Thomas Schnauz confirmed in an exclusive interview with Gold Derby (watch above) that the show would return in September 2018 for its fourth season. By then, 17 months will have passed since the third season premiered on AMC in April 2017 (and 15 since the third season finale in June 2017).

“Better Call Saul” will return too late to qualify for the 2018 Emmys, having been nominated for Best Drama Series for its first three seasons. Schnauz explains, “We do miss an Emmy cycle. We do come back in September and as long as the show continues, we’re going to hit that September mark every year.” The writers have estimated about five seasons for the show, so pencil the final season in tentatively for a September 2019 debut. However, the “Better Call Saul” writers are open about how they “don’t arc out the entire season” in advance, let alone know how the series will end.

So roughly 20 more episodes in the series. Unless they Breaking Bad it, and split one “season” over two years.

But if it is 20 more episodes left, they still have a ton more to cover to get from Jimmy who just got his license suspended for a year to Saul Goodman.

There will most likely have to be a time jump in there somewhere. Don't know how they will pull it off otherwise.

Nah, too long to go before it comes out. Don't feel like arguing from now until September.

Between Rick and Morty, GOT, Westworld, and now this, shows are pushing the limits on keeping interest while they are getting closer to 2 years between episode runs of a total of 10-12 episodes per run.

Wtf is going on. Shows used to pump out 24 episodes in a year.

I guess you can argue overall quality has increased, but it shouldn't take twice as long to produce half as much.

On the flip side you have Netflix rolling along with original content at a good pace

I’ve never once heard of anyone losing interest on a show that took a longer than normal hiatus.

The thing that sucks most about this is Mike’s age.

That's the issues with long breaks. You've got the Bran Effect of characters looking different and hoping people live long enough to finish. They can use makeup on Odenkirk but some actors are either going to look too old or need to be written out.

And I will have forgotten the last season.
