Mine too. I love the damn movie.

But to the poster above who said Dar would kick Conan's arse, bullshite.

Sorry, just isn't happening.

And have others have said, CoB was gritty, serious, adult high fantasy adventure. There was gore, sex, violence, nudity, and the feeling that this was "real".

CoD was almost a parody of CoB. Campy characters, less grit, less violence, and more "family friendly".

Barbarian came out in 82 and still has the feel of movies made in the 70s. Where nudity, violence, grit, and adult themes were accepted and no punch was pulled. Movies like Death Wish, The Warriors, and Serpico said, "frick you" to your feelings or delicate sensibilities.

By 84 when Destroyer came out, Goonies and ET and "kid friendly" movies were making bank. Guess what drove their decisions? Money. So we get Destroyer.

Hell, I have a post about about the shite that is Indiana and the Temple Doom. It's got a got damn Gooney in it.

one instance where I would like to see Destroyer remade and the original Trilogy. This would be what is best in life.

the problem is that any new Conan movie would try to be "bigger and better" and involve super fast fighting and tons of CGI monsters

if you had a director/studio willing to risk a serious, adult fantasy sword/sandals movie based around practical effects, then it would work. the odds of that happening are incredibly low. even at a lower budget, it would require European/Asian investment.

It would only work if as a series IMO. More incentive to avoid the costs of "bigger and better" and plenty of source stories to rely on. Just hard to think of a decent actor as physically imposing as Conan.

Rock or Jason Mamoa are the two that come to mind

Conan the Barbarian, and I say this with no irony, is a masterpiece.

It's Shakespearean, it's a classical, orchestral, grandiose epic....its not a fantasy or gimmick of a movie like the second one. Just go back watch the opening 5 minutes of Conan the Barbarian to get hooked.

It's excellently written and has some if the best lines in any action or adventure or epic film ever. The casting is also unbelievable. James Earl Jones was beyond great.

Well stated sir.

Conan The Barbarian and the Beastmaster were both amazing. I remember watching Beastmaster over and over again as a kid and wishing the stupid Masters of the Universe movie would've been made like that.

Would be awesome if the new MOTU movie would be made like that (if it ever does get made) with little to no CGI and all practical movie effects, but I know that wont happen.

I will say.. Bollywood has been putting out some great mythology/ fantasy.

The right studio partnering with them would be cool.

Bollywood is the worst choice for an REH movie. Conan isn’t about choreographed fight scenes that are pleasing to the eyes.

There hasn’t been a movie made of his characters that even comes close. Let’s see some Bran Mak Morn, James Allison, hell I’d settle for a true version of Red Nails.
