NBC was aware of the niche comedy that it was. To them it was a perfect show to put up against BBT. And they are right. Any show at the same time as BBT is doomed to fail rating-wise. That is the hard truth and they know it. That is why it lasted so long. Now, NBC feels like BBT may be getting stale, and this is their chance to put a new show in that spot to maybe take over Thursday nights for NBC. The Office and 30 Rock are on their last legs. That means 3 new shows on Thursday nights.
BBT moved to Thursdays in fall of 2010 and Community premiered in the fall of 2009. It was CBS essentially slapping NBC around because, well, they can rather than any design on NBC's. After paintball, Community may have had a chance to do something in its second season but CBS essentially killed that by putting the highest (or second highest) rated sitcom on across from it. Again, I really don't think Community failing was NBC's fault the network just sucks at the moment as they have not had a genuine hit since The Office.

I think Whitney is hilarious.
I watch it because I find it so funny that people paid millions of dollars a year by NBC to go through all of the pilots brought us a 3 camera sitcom with a laugh track, studio audience, cookie cutter characters and the "set up, bad joke......set up, bad joke" formula and that shite isn't going anywhere.
Network people are retarded.
