Other than the mask, 2099 came to mind for me...

You are saying a completely fictional character is an American icon. Is that what you are really trying to say here?
If so, I question your understanding of the meaning of the word icon.

Isn't this next one supposed to be Spiderman meets Twilight ?

If you aren't a real human, then you aren't a icon to me. Babe Ruth was an icon. Dale Earnhardt was an icon. Ronald Reagan was an icon.
Spiderman is a comicbook/cartoon/movie superhero.
If any superhero is iconic, it would be Superman and that's mainly attributed to the iconic S symbol.

Not from what I've heard. The love/romance storylines in the first 3 movies blew donkey dick. That gingersnatched dildo Mary Jane needs to get off her high moral horse and let ole PP slay that poonanny.

So who/what else is an icon to you? If Spiderman is an icon to you then every other comic book character must be iconic. Every dude with brown hair must be as well. All Peters are as well.
Some people have a severely watered down interpretation of what an icon is, but it's irrelevant because Spiderman isn't even a real person and people are calling him iconic. Lunacy as its finest.

It's not what an icon is to me, it's what the word icon means in the English language. Somebody already provided the standard definition:
This is not up for debate. You have come up with your own idea that an icon has to be an actual human. That's just false as per the English language. Like I said before, the American flag is an icon, Uncle Sam is an icon, the bald eagle is an icon, George Washington is an icon.

a picture, image, or other representation.

George Washington was a picture, image or representation? Who knew?
Same goes for the Bald Eagle, our flag, and the character created for army recruiting posters.
So, according to you, we are either both wrong, or both right.
Which way is it? Either way, I come out rosy.
And Spiderman is not an icon :)

what do yall mean by reboot?

You can question whether Spiderman is an icon or not. I think he is, you obviously think he isn't. Where I find your point ridiculous is the ground upon which you dismiss him as an icon--that he has to be a real person. That's incorrect by definition.
Spiderman is a cultural icon. 3 or 4 generations of Americans have grown up watching his cartoons, reading his comics, playing w/ his toys, sleeping on spiderman bedsheets, etc. That makes him iconic. He's a representation of American culture. That is up for debate. Your strange definition that you have created in your own mind for what an icon has to be (an actual human) is not up for debate. Plain and simple.
Another definition in the link I provided:
quote:That is why the American symbols I described, included George Washington himself, are icons.
a sign or representation that stands for its object by virtue of a resemblance or analogy to it.

I would say so. Wouldn't you?

This comment makes no sense to me. Aside from a lack of under-arm webbing, Ultimate Spidey's costume is exactly the same as the regular comic Spidey costume. This argument would ring true if we were talking about villains/ origins.
EDIT: the redesign of the costume better look better on the screen, because this redesign just screams of change for change's sake.
