Today I learned the original aired in the time slot right after the first few seasons Beverly Hills, 90210.
90210 came out in 1990. I thought Friday Night Lights came out about 2005 or 6.

It was a joke referring to the showrunner saying how things have changed since the original run because now there’s social media and cell phones now.

I graduated high school in 2006
It’s wildly different than today with cell phone and social media. The only social media possible for high school was MySpace
Nobody could do much of shite in their phone besides call or text(but text were limited)
I shared my dad’s cell phone. Only allowed to use it when I was out driving at night

So did I. But Facebook and MySpace were popping along with a few other sites people were posting profile links to in AIM away messages and the first iPhone was only a year away from being launched. The show runner’s comment made it sound like the first run of the show took place in the early 90s. I get that stuff wasn’t part of the show per se (however a central point in the first season was using the internet to run a slut shaming campaign on Lila) but he made it sound like that stuff wasn’t around period during the original

A show about high school today and high school in 2006 isn’t remotely similar, it’s a massive change which suppers the directors point. And the driver of that change is the explosion of social media
I’ll ask you this, do you think a show about high school in 1987 and 2006 would be similar at all?
Because that’s the same time difference….

But the original show was done a long time ago. There were no cell phones. No social media. It was a very different world
His comments. Not that those things were different back then. Or that they were in the early days of development. That there were none.
Goddamn dude stop being so obtuse it was a joke about a slip up he made in an interview, albeit not a very funny one, but I went on what I had to work with

Do you really think the director got confused and thought there were no cell phones in 2006?
You are the one being obtuse. He is clearly just making the point the world of cell phones and social media would make a show about high school vastly different today
Your 90210 joke WAS funny, but you seem to actually be trying to argue the point the director wa starting to make now

No. Did you miss the part where I said it was an obvious slip up by him. He misspoke, didn’t say something as clearly as he probably should have or didn’t elaborate, happens to us all everyday. Hence why I made the sarcastic comment about how the first season must have originally during the early 90210 days. You know fun message board chatter.
Stop taking shite so fricking serious. You’ll stroke out before we’re 40 brother

After further review it actually did. The first series based on the book was called Against the Grain (1993) starring a young Ben Affleck. Did not know that may have to check it out.

Damn good find, sir!
And same. This sounds like a Tubi app special. That place is like a small town video store- it has a little bit of everything and chocked full of obscure goodness.
