i just found out this morning there's a town in arkansas that's been throwing turkeys out of an airplane for YEARS....as in like 30 years.
never heard of that before..apparently its for a thanksgiving festival and the crowd chases down any turkey that survives the fall.

So you're saying they have a chance?

What a charming ritual. What do they do, chase them with sharp sticks?

That's pretty terrifying.
The humane solution would be to shoot them before they hit the ground.
And it would be entertaining as frick.

It's called Turkey Trot in Yellville Ar and ALL the turkeys glide to the ground it's been going on 50 + years and it all that time no turkey has died on the fall
PETA shows up every year to try t enforce their views on Arkansas and of course that goes very well
Personally I don't care what every small town ln America does for local celebrations but peta is out of control

The turkey drop has been happening for at least 50 years; according to The Baxter Bulletin, twelve turkeys were dropped in 2016, with two, “failing to slow their descent and dying upon impact.” Festival attendees chased down and claimed the surviving birds.

A highlight of the festival was the "Turkey Toss," in which live wild turkeys were tossed off of the roof of the County Courthouse. In the 1960s this was replaced by the Turkey Drop.
The thinking behind the toss/drop was that most of the turkeys would escape into the wild and thereby increase the local population. The problem is that while wild turkeys can fly, they are accustomed to it much lower to the ground, from tree to tree. Some of the dropped birds would expire on impact. Some that landed safely ended up being chased around town.
The splattering and the chasing drew unwelcome national media attention in the 1970s and 1980s, and animal rights groups threatened legal action. Since 1990, Yellville has officially divorced itself of the Turkey Drop -- it isn't mentioned in any Turkey Trot literature -- and yet it still happens every year.

Cheers was a better show.
Loni was hotter than Kirstie or Shelley.
Johnny Fever was cooler than everyone on Cheers
Norm and Cliff were funnier than everyone on WKRP
