Lennie Bias death shook me up.
This one scared me off from ever even considering trying coke, so it had some positive impact in my life. It sucked because I was a huge fan of the Celtics in the Eighties and it was a huge blow to that organization.

Huge waste of talent. Would have been one of the greatest of Gen X generation talent wise.

Didn't see it posted but the one that got me would have to be Patrick Swayze. Loved him in Roadhouse and Point Break. Just seemed like such a cool cat and I remember seeing pics of him looking gaunt after the cancer took hold and how much it changed him.
Steve Irwin and Chris Farley are up there too.

Amy Winehouse some too. And, no, I certainly was not surprised that it happened, but when I hear this haunted up remix to one of her songs, it kinda hit me hard
Give it a listen
The pain in her voice is palpable.

I had no idea Patrick Swayze was dead. I'm not kidding.

I wanted to grow up to be him. Haven't seen a thing about him since he died.
Robin
Everytime I'm flipping channels and one of his movies is on I pause and think about watching and then the desire fades and I move on without a glimpse. I just can't watch his stuff yet.

Dan Wheldon (Indycar driver).
I watched almost every race he was ever in, either live or on TV. He was not my favorite driver, but he was a super nice guy and always positive.

Sure, it wasn't a surprise at all. But I'd listened to everything he'd done since the 70's, watched his last interview with Letterman, and was wearing out his last album which was one of his best and made when he could barely sing because he was so ill. Knowing it was inevitable made it worse in some ways.
Phil Hartman for actors.

Marvin Gaye. He was shot by his dad which makes it really tragic. I was just a kid but I remember him doing the anthem at the NBA all-star game and his comeback album sexual healing.
I would also say Dale Earnhardt since I was watching the Daytona 500 and saw it live.
Robin Williams since he made so many people laugh it was sad to see him commit suicide.
John Lennon. Agains I was just a kid but I remember it being a big deal.
Michael Jackson. I know he had issues but you never figure he'd die that way.
JFK jr. Regardless of politics to die that way when you consider how much tragedy he saw in his life with his Dad and mom dying. He seemed like a good guy.

hated to hear about Stuart Scott
Paul Walker, who I didn't care about his acting, but from everything read could not have been a nicer, sweeter, kinder person.
My wife and I watched FF7 and I told her I hope she cries half as much when I die.
Irwin just shocked me because of how ironically he died. I loved watching him on tv though
I hate/love seeing tributes to Farley/Hartman because it's gut-wrenching but they were hilarious and in my "growing-up" wheel house.
A real big one for me is Greg Giraldo. His whole life was a big frick you to normalcy. He got a bachelors from Columbia and a Law degree from Harvard and said "this shite sucks, I'll be a comedian."
When I watched him I was in awe because of who and what he was and then what he did.
I'd watch him and just think how so many people don't realize this guy can dominate them.
And then just like so many comedians that make us laugh they're gone. I wish their lives had the fulfillment they gave a lot of others.

oh man that's a good one. I wonder what his music would be like if he hadn't been killed.

I did too, and I think people never could believe it because the crash just didn't look that bad.
