Giving this a bump. I finished season 1 last night and I loved it. Walks a tight balance between serious storytelling and humor. Really great show.

I’m enjoying the show. Very entertaining and even funny at times.

But to be honest. I want to punch YoYo square in the face. He’s a lowlife piece of dogshit. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever hated a main character on a tv show or movie as much as I do him. He has zero redeeming qualities. The perfect ending to this series would be him suffering a long agonizing death with the full weight of the shame he rightly deserves being the only thing on his mind other than the excruciating pain that welcomes him to the afterlife.

I thought the series was better than the movie but the points here about the movie are all pretty solid..it was what it was during that time frame...Hopefully, they pick up more of these as its the closest thing to the actual military I have seen since Generation Kill

Finally saw it.

Wow. What a fantastic miniseries. I thought that Heller's disjointed chronology was some kind of literary sacred cow, but the way the plot unfolded was brilliant.

I highly recommend it, and I think that George Clooney has a solid future as a director. Absolutely brilliant.

I finished season 1

I wish they'd had a season 2.

Just finished my second watch of the series. Prior to that I read the novel from start to finish for the first time. Catch-22 was one of those books that I'd grab from the shelf to kill time at a library or book store. You can read any chapter and it pretty much stands on its own as a great read. I finally checked the book out and read it in chronological order (if that's possible with Catch-22).

Then I watched the Hulu series again. It really is a great series/story, even with the omissions from the novel. The biggest hole is the role that Nately's whore plays in the final chapters. The Hulu Yoyo never finds her after Nately's death, and we miss out on the entire whore/assassin subplot that runs through to the finale of the book. The Doc Daneeka chapter is my favorite, with his "death" and the aftermath. That's left out as well.

Speaking of the finale, Hulu's choice to have Yoyo "give up" on his quest to go home, and to just continue his missions seems like a cop-out. I get the sense that they might've wanted to leave room for a second season, but still, that just kills the story for me. Yossarian finds out about Orr's resolution and just basically ignores it. Just an odd choice.

The actors playing Orr and Minderbinder deserved awards for their performances. Both were perfect. Kyle Chandler as well. And Bill Pullman's kid did a great job as Major Major Major Major.

Great series, but the finale just didn't do it for me.

there's not supposed to be a season 2, and yossarian is basically supposed to be insane by the end, which he is in both versions, albeit expressed differently.

Got the DVD of the 1970 movie from Netflix (it's not streaming anywhere). Every time that I see it I'm impressed with the cast. Just packed. Grodin as Aarfy is inspired, as is Balaban as Orr.

The start of the film, with everyone screaming over the airplane noise, is a bit aggravating. Once we get into the film it's much better, though having Arkin shout a lot of his lines didn't do it for me.

You could see that Nichols was trying to fit a taste of every chapter of the book into the film, so you get a general feel for the book without getting the full impact.

Still in love with Paula Prentiss.
