True, but even not knowing much about the actual history, you can piece together the relevant information just from the movie alone. And to speak to the "period," I thought it was funny early on when that chick is drunk at the bar and is wanting to frick Rick. She says something like "Will I see you tonight?" And he hits her with "I never plan that far ahead.." Then he grabs her by the arm and forces her into a cab. I thought it was funny because you'd never see something like that nowadays, but back then it was accepted and commonplace that a man could (and would) put a woman "in her place" like that.
