I was actually just going to post this same thing. I was actually going to recommend this to both Carson and OMLandshark, since they love characters like the Hound and Littlefinger from ASOIAF. Abercrombie's mixture of amoral badasses and dark humor would be right up their alley.

I will definitely check this book out. Thanks for the rec, guys.

On a side note Carson, your list is severely lacking in Once upon a time in the West given all the westerns you have on there.

Have you read his other stand alone books? They are set in the same world and have some of the First Law charaters. They are great reads also

Yeah, Red Country is probably my favorite. Though I think I like all three stand alones better than the original trilogy, but they are all damn close, outside of the first one, which isn't quite on the same level.

I'm reading Red Country right now, it's pretty damn good.

I think of the three stand alones Best Served Cold is the weakst (still really good). It was just repetitive.

Have you read or heard of a newer guy named Mark Lawrence? He's got a newer trilogy starting with Prince of Thorns that has kind of a similar vibe to Abercrombie.

I really liked BSC. I know it's alot of folks least favorite though. I think I just really liked Monza's character and I tend to get into straight up revenge stories anyway.

Seen just about all of those, and I can't say that I don't like a single film on your list. We tend to have similar taste, so I don't really think you bitch all that much.

Also very solid. I like that series better so far than I like his original poet one.

Yeah, there is a difference between having high standards and bitching too much. Carson is more picky than I am with movies, but his list of likes is very close to most of my favorite movies list in that top 40 we did recently.

You mean... "The Invention of Lying"?

Thought that movie was overrated by being called "okay."

I know I am probably in the minority on this, but I prefer the movie. And yes, it is vastly different from the book.

Ellis is a good author, and American Psycho was fantastic, but his works are too damn depressing

you should check it out. Robert Downey Jr. gives a great performance as the coked-out Julian (I think Julian is the name, been awhile)

It might have even inspired him to party in real life, or at least party harder

if he did a good job as Julian, then he definitely was playing himself in the movie
