I must have watched Rad a hundred times. We'd quote that move constantly. Monster Squad as well.
My routine as a kid would be to look up movie times on HBO, Showtime, etc. (we had the giant satellite dish in the backyard with "filters"), then program the VCR to record movies at night on the West Coast broadcast. I had a VHS library of about 100 tapes, all recorded movies.
