It's not casting. They wrote bad plot lines just to add diverse characters. The bad plot lines are the problem.
People love Leia, people love Rey.
But they are well written characters

No they didn't. ANd Rey is great, she's one of the best parts of TFA.

When Rogue One came out, SO MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINED because it happened a 2nd time.
Well because this was purely stunt/reactionary casting, or at least it felt like it because it was the second time it happened. Now, the movie was pretty good, so there's that. But having two films with two female hero leads is an obvious ploy, and lends credence to the idea that they are pushing very specific ideas through the films.
At the very least, it seems very intentional even if it's as simple as "We need two female leads because reasons," and it isn't about politics.

Same principle. The powers that be think that if they cover all demographics that they can appeal to a larger audience and sell more toys and other shite. Which I get.
Be damned the quality I need to sell shite to China!!
Seriously i could have cared less that Rose was Asian and Finn was black.. If that was a person's only issue then they have a far greater issue to deal with.
My issue was that they're just not good characters at all.. If Finn would have sacrificed himself I would have seriously applauded that.. But once again Rose and her touchy feely BS ruined what could have been a very powerful moment in the movie.

Does ticket sale data support that assumption?
When was the turning point that minorities and women stopped going to theaters to see movies with white people in it?
I don't think you'll find any evidence of either. It's the directors prerogative, period, and his interviews support that. Viewers can take it or leave, but I don't expect it to change.

That isn't what I said. I said to see movies with only white men in it as leads.

Why is it feminist propaganda to have a female lead?
Posted on 12/19/17 at 10:39 am to AggieDub14
It’s got nothing to do with Rey. It has everything to do with every order given in the movie comes from a woman with exception of Poe’s order to attack the Firstborn order which was depicted as the wrong one. And the purple haired chick was put in the movie for absolutely no other reason than to have a woman take down the brash male fighter pilot down a peg or two in the name of feminism. That part isn’t even debatable.

But you're making that shite up. You have no evidence of that, and even if you did, what percentage of movie goers do you feel that would make up? A tiny little fraction. Star Wars doesn't have marketing issues. It's being used as the podium for the directors (and current creators) to "spread" their ideals.
I'm not even mad. Don't really even care. But that is still what is happening. These plots weren't written in for wider marketing appeal.

Because it impacts on the believableness of a story. Let’s say we remake a “Roots” . Should we throw in an asian and Latino guy for the sake of diversity?

So because Leia was in charge and her vice admiral was also a female, it's propaganda?
Posted on 12/19/17 at 10:47 am to AggieDub14
Yes. And you know why.
Posted on 12/19/17 at 10:48 am to GeauxxxTigers23
That just doesn't bother me as much as it does you I guess. It did seem a little off that this rando character we had never met was in charge, but the entire command chain was killed. So it does make sense.
