A talented guy has worked hard on a script. Post Viet-Nam vet with a quirky plot twist. It’s well written and clever.
He spills it all on TD’s movie board and it’s stolen by big Hollywood and made into a genre defining blockbuster.
OP sued for credit and damages and lost. He died penniless. It turns out the screenplay was autobiographical.

years ago me and a buddy had an idea for a screenplay/movie/book.
only had the basic idea of the plot and not much further because, well neither one of us knows shite about writing that sort of thing.
then a year or so later "The Hangover" was released.
our idea wasn't exactly the same, but similar enough that we would have been labeled as ripoffs if we ever did take it any further.

Star Wars, 30 years or so after the conclusion of the original trilogy. It turns out that the Empire, although seriously weakened by the events of RotJ, wasn't completely destroyed, and has returned in a new form to once again menace the galaxy. A ragtag band of freedom fighters sets out to search for Luke Skywalker, who withdrew from society at large years ago, not wanting his presence to overshadow the new Republic. Finally they locate him on a remote planet and explain to him what is going on, and after a short beat while he digests what they have told him...
...he returns with them and fricks the reformed Empire's shite right up. I mean, just goes crazy all over the entire lot of them with the Force. At the end there's some Darth Vader-wannabe dude that tries to fight him, but Luke kicks his arse in a fricking sweet lightsaber fight, restores the Republic once again, and then everyone in the theater cheers while the Star Wars theme plays over the credits.
See, Disney? SEE HOW EASY THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN?

Equalizer type movie, but just normal guy (no special fighting skills).
Quiet/shy college student learns his female cousin was SA'd in her dorm. Protagonist hunts and tortures SAer. Cousins tells friends and it gets out to sororities. Multiple other girls ask for help, so vigilante justice ensues. Two detectives eventually learn who the guy is, but instead of arresting him, they start to aid him as they think the fear of his growing fame on campus may deter future assaults, and because he's not killing these people. A couple of the assaulters eventually learn who protagonist is and devise a plan to kill him. They abduct him and take him somewhere to be tortured, but they don't know the cops know about it. Protagonist is able to send message for help before he is taken, and detectives show up just in time to kill assaulters in final standoff. They tell him to leave before they call it in so what they've been doing doesn't get out. One of other girls assaulted comes to check on him and thank him again and they kiss. Protagonist has new-found confidence and now has gf. The end.

I love Jason Bourne movies, but I'm able to run through them pretty fast because I fast forward through all car chases in any movie

I think if you write for a living, you're asking for depression. If you approach it as a fun project, I think it could alleviate depression.
A nice wise old man once told me "Just tell a good story."

I don't remember what movie we had watched, but it was pretty dog shite.
we said to each other we could easily write a better movie than that (note: we still haven't written one
so we came up with the idea of what the base story would be.
was going to be some guys out for a night of bar hopping in Southern Louisiana (and the shenanigans that ensued).
we never did iron out all the details to get it from an idea to a full blown script though.
