if you would watch the Talking Bad right now, you could find out directly from the horse's mouth, Vince Gilligan just semi stated it. So did Chris Hardwick

what exactly is the shows message?
Actions have consequences
Jesse is the upswing to Walt's downfall. If the guy resisting every "bad" thing that has occurred since season two dies, what meaning does the show carry anymore?

well, why must it have a positive meaning?
This show is hardly uplifting, and I would be upset if they copped out like that.

it's all about chemistry. Every action has a reaction.

I've come to realize that much of what I teach my students applies not only to what goes on in the classroom, but in life also. It's not as crazy as it sounds. You see, technically, chemistry is the study of matter, but I prefer to see it as the study of change: Electrons change their energy levels. Molecules change their bonds. Elements combine and change into compounds. But that's all of life, right? It's the constant, it's the cycle. It's solution, dissolution. Just over and over and over. It is growth, then decay, then transformation. It's fascinating really.

this is an interesting thought. As much as I fricking hate her, Skyler has a lot of the qualities required of a successful kingpin.

I don't pretend to be a chemist or a doctor, but in high enough concentrations you'd expect it to be speed up the way it affects the body. Additionally, Walt has proven himself to be highly intelligent -- do you really think he couldn't engineer a way to catalyze the body's reaction to the poison? Like I said, that's not my field, but it doesn't stretch the imagination too far to think something like that could happen.
And hell, he could even ingest the poison in advance and then have his moment.
He could ingest it in advance, but the way Ricin works means that it takes a long time -- no matter how much you ingest. Most of the time a day to even show symptoms. It takes 3 days after symptoms show up to kill you. It stops the body from making proteins and kills your organs one by one.

It shows realism. Often the guys who try to do the right moral things are destined to lose. The guy who takes the amoral route makes it out and has to live with what he has done. The best possible ending is for Walt to win, Jesse dies, Hank dies etc. Walt knows he has cancer so it doesn't matter to him because he knows he won't have to live with what he's done. He goes to the doctor to check the progress of the cancer and finds out it's been eradicated. Walt then has to live with the guilt for the rest of his life.

this, though I would change "sometimes" to "often" in the first part, and "has to live with what he has done" to "never gives a thought to the carnage in his wake" in the second part.

According to Vince, we have to worry about the moving parts involved with Lydia and the Czechs

He also said to pay attention to the ricin to be in play sooner than later

I think the reason Walt has been able to be so remorseless is because he thinks he only has an intermediate amount of time left and will do whatever to leave his daughter and son better off. Without knowing he's going to die, I think that'll change his outlook a good bit.

Really?
I just want the scene where Walt shaves his head and beard before the final showdown. Just him putting on the porkpie hat and walking towards the door will be enough for me.

Walt turned into a power hungry freak who wants a legacy. He cares more about that than his family.

Well it's interesting that they bring the concept of the Czechs in this late into the show. It's going to be a crazy 7 more episodes if they are going to introduce a brand spanking new antagonist.

quote:I'd have to disagree with this. The Walt that was purely invested in making sure his family was left with a nice nest egg once he was dead is long gone.

Remember this is a guy who looks at how much Grey Matter is worth everyday of his life. I'd say since S4 he's been building an empire and focusing on his own legacy.
