Went to a Goodwill this morning to buy a few slacks to donate to another church outreach who does job placement. Anyway

Walked bu the books and Lone Survivor was huge and prominent on the spine. Bought it for a buck.

Have seen the movie 10 times but does Luttrelle and Patrick Robinson embellish the 350+ page book? Should I bother reading? TIA

To answer to that question was discussed on Andy Stumph's Cleared Hot Podcast last week. Short answer to question 1 is yes. Answer to question 2 is best for after watching podcast.

it's more interesting as a piece of history in itself than a source of historical information. virtually everyone who was a part of creating and publishing that book knew to some degree that it was bullshite, but they were all kind of ok with it, because it was great for recruiting. additionally it was a mainstream counter to the left wing media apparatus that was driving the narrative on the GWOT in an era before social media really got going.

is it worth reading? sure. take the story with a grain of salt, but look at it within the context of when and why it was written and it gets much more interesting.

All I'm gonna say is the book and movie are both entertaining, HOWEVER, the author sure remembered a lot of detail for being in the middle of a firefight for a long period of time. I personally believe there's quite a bit of bullshite in the book.

I wish the Pepsi bottle (or whatever brand it was) played a bigger role in the movie.

Yes read the book. It goes into more detail about what happened and is worth the read whether you think he embellished it or not.
