I liked this episode more than most do.
i liked it quite a bit as well.
it hit a little too close to home with 2 teenagers.
i am torn between going all 'parent filter' on the router and realizing if they want to view porn they'll find a way to do it that i can't monitor (like using data on their phones instead so i can't see all the log activity like i can with wifi)
its tough trying to be a 'good' parent and not an overprotective parent that doesn't allow your kids the freedom to do their own thing.
technical filters only go so far...
when i went through a divorce 10+ years ago i started monitoring everything my (dumb) ex was doing and it was heart-breaking. i would literally slug a drink then open my computer & look at everything she was doing.
it was a godsend in court, but you gotta steal your constitution for what you may find.
there's quote in proverbs: "Don't eavesdrop on your servants for you may find them cursing you." and I get it now.
so in short, not prepared to do that to my nearly-adult kids. things were easier when they believed in santa and dad was the center of their universe
shite i just went all emo.

quote:Stealing the DNA wasn't irrelevant. Nanette has all of the proof to show authorities just incase Robert was actually able to wake up. The aspect of explaining to coworkers and the police that you stole someones DNA for a sealed off verision of a video game would be pretty interesting to hear.
But anyway I took the end to mean that the captain's consciousness got deleted with the game. Stealing the DNA ended up being irrelevant.

But her in the real world (as an aside, I just realized she was the mother in How I Met Your Mother) wouldn't have any idea what to do with the evidence. She stole it because she thought she was being blackmailed. She had no idea about his separate video game world.

Hah, yep, have a 14 year old daughter. After much thought about monorting where she is going on the internet I decided to back off and just talk to her.
Of course she lies, all teenagers lie! hah

now that they are 'free' in the video game world, couldn't her virtual self start to establish a conversation?
she could relay personal details (like she did with the cloud storage password) that only she herself would know and she could figure out her DNA is trapped in the game pretty quick.

mine is 16. and yes, there's no good answer here. access to the webezz is ubiquitous and she can just as easily get online at any of her friend's houses with parents who don't monitor or now with cellphone data, its pretty much impossible to keep them safe.
you just have to raise them as best you can and hope they aren't influenced too much by their peers. at the end of the day, kids are gonna do their own thing and you can only blame yourself so much as a parent.

Just remembered the line that made me lol during this episode.
"Should I stop scrolling now?"
"Yeah, any of the last 9 should work."

That was a hell of a post to read.
I didn't exactly dislike Arkangel. But I also felt like it had been executed better in other BM episodes ("The Entire History of You" to be specific). The funny thing is that the mother didn't have the self control to let her daughter live her life the way she wanted to. I didn't have a problem with the ending because it left the possibilites unlimited for Sara.
I did find it interesting that Marie wasn't homeschooling Sara. Because that certainly seems like something an extremely overprotective parent would probably do. This episode definitely reminded me of some of my friends helicopter parents from HS.

I don't know about you, but if I get an e-mail from myself as a DNA clone in a video game, I'm about as likely to believe that shite as the dude in Slidell posing as a Nigerian prince.
Although in their world it might be a totally different concept.

I might rewatch that episode tonight. It was definitely the funniest of the six.
Also, the real hero of the USS episode:

Gotta go the fake blackmail route if you are really going to shock them. Then everyone in the office gets together and realizes wtf is actually going on.
On a different note, the folks over at Channel 4 are still salty over losing Black Mirror to Netflix. I don't blame them tbh.

Yeah I noticed almost all of those besides the artist from the very first episode of BM.
This episode reminded me The Twilight Zone btw.
