Comedy movies are very much in a slump this decade
They’ve seen a large reduction in market cap. Comic book movies/tent poles have just exploded so these companies don’t want to spend any money on comedies that are a larger risk with a lesser reward.
They’ve had some good ones like Game Night, Tag, the jump street movies etc but they seem to only have 1-2 movies come out a year that aren’t already tied to an older successful comedy

Game Night and Tag were OK at best, nothing near the quality that was coming out during that period.
I don't think its just a matter of blaming it on tent pole franchises though as there are other avenues to make these movies if you want. I think there's more of a talent drain currently.

I think we’ll be making threads like this one in a few years about game night. I find it very underrated and I’m really excited to see what that director does in the future because he did some really cool things

Well I think a piece of the tent pole thing is everyone wants a piece of that money so a lot of the comedic talent out there is doing those movies or they are doing TV which has become a much more free way to make content than movies can be.
There deffinitly is a missing element of a “rat pack” that we’ve been blessed with over the past couple years. Originally it was the Ferrell/Reily/Vaugh/Wilson etc Group that got taken over by the Rogan/Segal/etc group and no one really filled that mainstream movie void when those guys got bored or old.

And you can’t be as offensive anymore without offending a bunch of people. ( Superbad for example) several gay slurs and stuff that were/are hilarious but I don’t think studios wanna have movies with that in them

Forgetting Sarah Marshall will be the subject of "The Rewatchables" podcast this week. I think the episodes are released around mid-week.
I really like The Rewatchables podcast, but holy shite Fennassy constantly comes off as the most pretentious, elitist, self-righteous douche on the planet.

It can be really frustrating to listen to sometimes.
They spent the first quarter of the Forgetting Sarah Marshall podcast talking about other movies. Wtf?
